good beer NobleSquirrel (1094), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2009 Draft at Edel-Weiss in Norridge. Pours a pale brown, darker than the normal hefe but still somewhat pale for a Dunkelweizen. Nose is spicy and cloves/bananas dominate. Taste is pretty well balanced, mildly roasty and distinct Bavarian flavors of wheat bread and spice and a slight tartness in the middle. Very nice one, actually. finol (474), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Oct 25, 2009 Bottle from Systembolaget.
Pours maroon with a off white head.
Some sourness, wheat and in the backgrond slightly spicy aroma.
Tastes of wheat and a bit spicy, a bit belgian like a light abbey triple. rakkasan (50), Bresso, Italy Oct 21, 2009 bottle - pours light mahogany with a light brown 3 finger frothy, head. Spicy citrus aroma, with a doughy apricot-apple flavor with a hint of tobacco, light hoppy finish with a slighly acidic undertone that evens it out. gyllenbock (234), Stockholm, Sweden Oct 15, 2009 Bottle. Hazy dark with a large head. The flavor is slightly acidic with caramel, malt and yeast. No banana in aroma or flavor. Did found some pepper and maybe a little cinnamon. A pleasant and easy to drink dunkelweisen.
Aquilo (248), California, USA Oct 8, 2009 Pours a nice dark amber with a nice tall head. The aroma is nice, if you can catch a whiff of it. A nice bready aroma with some nice clove. I’m expecting banana, but find it missing. Flavor is nice, I guess. Sharp and yeasty, some nice cinnamon and clove flavor, and finally some banana in the finish. This beer is just nice. Not great, just nice. Very accessible. GG (1609), NorCal, California, USA Oct 6, 2009 Quite the nice combo of dark malts to go with the fantastic banana and clove angle. The aroma is yeast, light fruits (apricots and apples), medium malts with cloves and light banana. Flavor has some nice roasted malts, nothing overpowering, bready, a bit of banana and clove with a suble sweetness. Very nice. Niko100 (81), New York, USA Sep 29, 2009 Dark hazy brown color; Medium very creamy body; Aroma of light malt, citrus & spice; Flavor of malt, banana & apricot; A hint of chocolate/toffee at the finish; I like it - a solid good dunkel-weiss.
