Deep and dark colored, cloudy with yeast. Brewed with a darker roasted malt which adds some maltiness to the refreshing flavour of the Hefe-Weissbier.

500 ml bottle served in a goblet glass. Dark sunrise orange, pretty hazy, with a nice, creamy and persistent white head. On the nose fruity esters, unripe bananas, yeast, light alchool presence, some spices and maybe just a hint of darker fruits. Light astringency and acidic edge upfront, solid malty base, spicy and moderately fruity. Big yeast influence, as expected. Not particulary easy to drink, it feels heavier compared to the actual ABV. Slightly watery as well. Average carbonation, light to medium body, slightly creamy texture. Not impressed honestly.

Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel is a great speciman of a classic German beer style. Aroma is moderate with notes of yeast. Pour is a murky dark brown with an decent head. Taste is hearty with yeast notes or bananas and cloves with a smooth finish. If you closed your eyes, you wouldn’t know it was a dark beer. You can’t go wrong with this Franziskaner.

Poured from bottle a hazy orange-brown with a very durable and creamy tan head which leaves a moderate amount of lacing. Aroma: yeasty banana and more subtle clove and light malt. Taste: la well-integrated mix of flavors. Not bold but highly drinkable and easily recommended as a dining beverage. M: smooth but a tad too thin and watery. O: an exceptionally good-looking beer with fine flavor but a mediocre mouthfeel. (from Aug. 2012 notes)
