Commercial Description:
Deep and dark colored, cloudy with yeast. Brewed with a darker roasted malt which adds some maltiness to the refreshing flavour of the Hefe-Weissbier.

Cloudy light brown. Dirty fruit aroma. Dry bland with a slight bannana but not enough. Very lightly spiced flavor. Wouldn’t get this again.

Sampled last weekend. Compared to the regular Franziskaner, taste is a lot more sweet. Aroma is similar but appearance is a lot darker brown than normal. Mouthfeel is smooth and consistant with the regular brew. Flavor is more sweet and a little more malty. A great brew but I would probably stick with the regular if I had my choice.

Sweet, ripe banana in the aroma perhaps even some nuts and... sweet pastries? Surprisingly transparent and much less cloudy than the blonde variety. The taste reminds me a lot of ice cream I often had as a kid: banana, chocolate and almonds. Really! Might be a slight hint of citrus there too. It feels a bit thin on the palate and the complexity isn’t off the scale, but still, it feels like they’ve hit a pretty good compromise between an easy drinking and refreshing brew and something you can delve into. Solid and pleasant if not great or spectacular.

By far not the best Dunkel Hefe that I have had and for me this lacks the body of other examples.....but don’t get me wrong this is drinkable. Page 169 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer guide only 408 out 500 Classic Brews to go.

Butterscotch, molasses, and fruits in the aroma. Muddy brown appearance with small lasting head. Starts with foam on the palate finishes bitter.

Pours Dark Murky brown with biscuit large colored head. Very malty aroma, mainly a roasted nutty scent. Medium body and smooth going down. Strong flavor of malt - very complex, with banana and spices.
