Flavor tries to start fruity before the onslaught of malt leaves it dead in its tracks. Malt continue to dominate throughout the chewy finish. Nice yeast film on roof of mouth. Well made and very drinkable. PhillyBeer2112 (2093), Orange Park, Florida, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2006 Draft - Pours dark brown with a substantial head. The aroma is of yeast and a hint of bananas. The flavor is fairly sweet and again the banana notes are noticeable. The medium body is creamy, but too fizzy in my opinion. The finish is dry. Clears to a rather atttractive alky candy smell in the glass. Big 16.9 oz bottle, nice serving size as a sample. Unfiltered swirling hypnotizing hazy pour. Beatiful and desirable in appearance. A little browner and more opaque than iced tea. Big foaming head that does not subside apon empty bottle. Initial flavors of numbing soda pop. Crispy grassy tang. No bitterness can easily be found. Very refined, fun and friendly. Towards the end of the session some farmhouse impact coats the back of the palate. Enjoyable, friendly and easy going. Nice! This beer is a good example of what beer can be without the bitter attributes of hop or malt. . FROTHINGSLOSH (2046), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2009 Sampled on draft at Johnny’s Wife’s Place in Jeannette PA this beer poured murky dark orange-brown color with a small beige head. The aroma was moderately strong banana and clove. The flavor was bitter, tangy, bready and malty with notes of orange, pepper, cardboard and nutmeg underneath. The finish was long, dryish, spicy, bready and had a touch of clove. Nice. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2004 Classic hazy, rich brown color under an enormous wheat induced whip cream head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, and fruity banana. The same as the lighter version, but witha tad more maltiness in the aroma and palate. I'll take the Dunkel over the Helles anyday. A nice beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 26, 2001 Updated: Nov 13, 2005500ml bottle. Full, spicy, doughy yeast aroma, plenty of strong clove and banana with a hint of rich caramel, lemon and some nicely bready maltiness. Thoroughly opaque medium amber-brown color with a fluffy, lasting, ivory head. Flavor is mildly tart and fruity to start, becoming sweeter and maltier before the big yeast finish, more upfront spices and lingering, sweetish toffee combined with a tangy, citric presence and mild bitterness. Lightly acidic and highly effervescent mouthfeel with a light-medium body. Very flavorful and seemingly quite properly Old World.
