Deep and dark colored, cloudy with yeast. Brewed with a darker roasted malt which adds some maltiness to the refreshing flavour of the Hefe-Weissbier.

May 29th, 2011 - That cheeky monk goes wherever good beer goes. He’s kind, affable, and accessible, even for the poorest beer drinker like me. There’s no reason not to pick up a whole line of the Franziskaner beers, then, and give yourself a week to take in a little German culture and art. I started my horizontal tasting with the Hefe-weissbier Dunkel, appealingly dark, but certain to have a refined elegance reserved for lighter beers. and lagers. It pours with a somewhat thick light brown head, and the body glows with a deep and dark-orange red color, like a dying ember. I can’t catch much aroma through the foam, so I dig a shaft through the bubbles and take a sip. It begins with a light core of chocolate, accented with clove and brown sugar, resembling a pumpkin beer without the vegetal notes. The body is medium, the flavor is good, clear and clean, and sports a lot of straightforward, no-nonsense palate pleasing that would go tremendously well with chicken or pork dishes. Why don’t I buy these beers more often?

Dark and cloudy with a nice big head. Aromas of banana and roasted malts. Flavor is light bodied with loads of effervescent carbonation. Some chocolate, dark fruits and coffee with a big banana flavor. Nicely balanced but not too much flavor compared to other weissbiers in this category.

Not as total classic as it’s brother, but still one reliable and tasty choice no matter when or where you drink it!

500ml bottle served in a lager glass. Two finger creamy tan head. Medium brown body with high carbonation. Aroma is malt dominated, some light yeast and pear. On the tongue it’s a little fruity. Banana and apricot. Not terrible, neither interesting.

Had a couple of these in Augsburg after our car broke down, it helped. Cloudy brown orange with a good-sized diminishing white head, dark banana bread in the aroma, dry ending, starts and ends lightly sweet, medium bodied with a touch of sharp carbonation.

Botella 0.5L.

Very rich dunkelweizen that does what it should, and it does so quite well.

Bottle 0,50L. Hazy, dark amber colour with huge, creamy, light brown head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malts and banana. Taste starts slightly sour with plenty of banana mouthfeel. Finish is moderate bitter followed by dried plum and figs note, also some chocolate. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Really good German brew.
