COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep and dark colored, cloudy with yeast. Brewed with a darker roasted malt which adds some maltiness to the refreshing flavour of the Hefe-Weissbier.

May 29th, 2011 - That cheeky monk goes wherever good beer goes. He’s kind, affable, and accessible, even for the poorest beer drinker like me. There’s no reason not to pick up a whole line of the Franziskaner beers, then, and give yourself a week to take in a little German culture and art. I started my horizontal tasting with the Hefe-weissbier Dunkel, appealingly dark, but certain to have a refined elegance reserved for lighter beers. and lagers. It pours with a somewhat thick light brown head, and the body glows with a deep and dark-orange red color, like a dying ember. I can’t catch much aroma through the foam, so I dig a shaft through the bubbles and take a sip. It begins with a light core of chocolate, accented with clove and brown sugar, resembling a pumpkin beer without the vegetal notes. The body is medium, the flavor is good, clear and clean, and sports a lot of straightforward, no-nonsense palate pleasing that would go tremendously well with chicken or pork dishes. Why don’t I buy these beers more often?

Great looking pour, rich brown, thick/tan head. Aroma of malt, yeast, bread, grass. Taste is well balanced, with hints of chocolate, nuts, citrus ... creamy maltiness. A bit watery on the palate, with some oiliness, good follow-thru, moderate bitterness. Overall: one of my favorite dark weissbiers.

This beer pours an opaque brown with a large off-white head that fades somewhat quickly. The aroma blends banana with somewhat nutty malts and wheat, and the taste is mildly sweet and a touch umami with a hearty wheat yet sweet banana flavor in the aftertaste. The palate fuses a soft carbonation, slick texture, and a medium body.

500ml bottle into mug. Minneapolis. Pours deep brown with amber tint. Quite cloudy. Generous off white head. Aroma is really nice. Yeasty, plum, roasted malts. Taste is sweet, but less so than other dunkels (comparing next to ayinger and weihenstephaner). Still pretty well balanced. Body is medium-light. Actually a little thin for a weissbier. Average carbonation. Medium finish. Aroma is good on this beer, but the body is lacking relative to peers. I prefer Weihenstephaner.

This is classic and I love weizens, dunkels even more. A rock steady German masterpiece. You pick it and you are sure it is good.

Bottle from de Albert Heijn. The beer is dark amber colored, a little hazy and pours a large cream colored head. The aroma is fresh and fruity, with tones of bananas and citrus, roasted malts, a hint of caramel and spices. The taste is malty, fruity and medium bodied, a little watery also but not disturbing. The finish is fresh and light bitter and is long noticable.
