Pale brown colour. Toasty malt aroma. Creamy texture. Warming, sweet malty aftertaste.

Medium, yellow head, receding over red-amber beer, hazy. Roasted, caramel, fruity esters, and some cooked fruit or vegetables. Roasted taste, much more obvious than in the nose, and way more clear-tasting. Caramel, but only sweet-ish. Discreet fruity notes, difficult to pinpoint. Medium bodied at best, slightly sticky. Decent, if nowhere great. A bit like some old-style ale, so the name is warranted indeed.
