Tap at the brewpub. The look is clear, off white colored head, and reddish in color. The smell is malts, light, grainy, slight dust. The taste is better, Malta, slight hops, but good balance.

tap at brewpub-march 2012-pours copper hue with lots of lacing. nose is sweet, lite diacytl, which became an issue on this beer for me, and light carmel malts. lite hops really not much presence at all. flavors of sweet carmel malts and diacytl. this won GABF a few years ago? wow! This is not good at all (minus the apperance). I dont see how this beer would have won a medal in this condition.

4 oz. plastic sample cup, draft, from the back room at the Brew Pub in Fredericksburg, Texas. The pour is a mostly clear ruby golden, with not too much of an off white head. The aroma is light malt sweetness along with a touch of honey floral. Malty sweet nose, though certainly not cloying. The taste is the sweet malt, along with a nice nut character, and then ends with some of the sweet floral of the nose. The palate is medium bodied, coats the mouth a bit. Nice Red.

Rich malty nose. Clear but deep amber color with a nice head. Good intricate lacing. Coffee and hoppy flavor nicely dominate the malt. Damn fine for a red. I do say. Velvety palate yet still snappy and refreshing.

Sampler and pint glass at the joint- served a darkened maroon color, off white head did lace well. Aroma of malt and caramel. Hits the mouth with a light-medium body, malt wasn’t shy about caramel but still very enjoyable (that’s why I got a glass of it), holds up fine in the middle, finish has a nut/wood feel to it. I thought it was very nice.

Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 30, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 7, 2011 Copper, off white head. Mild aroma of grass and caramel. Grainy cereal malts, a metallic middle, herb, grass finish and a touch of spiciness. Suffers from the same watery feel that many of this brewery’s beers have, but it’s a more than tolerable beer for the hot summer.

(Draught at GABF) amber pour with a ring of creamy bubbles. Nose of funky shoes, amarillo hops, earth, and lightly sweet caramel. Taste is fruity, caramel with a thin body and creamy finish.

I sampled this beer at the brewery. I don’t remember too much of this beer except that it had a smooth flavor, but the complexity was lacking. I would not have this beer again. I thought their porter was the best
