Served at about 66 degrees. Watery for a Porter. possible a Phenol issue with a cardboard like taste. This could also be an issue caused by poor tap management. This beer is probably far from the example that one the Bronze Medal in the World Beer Cup 7 years ago.

4 oz. plastic sample cup, draft, from the back room at the Brew Pub in Fredericksburg, Texas. The pour is a clear brown black, with a loose khaki head. The aroma shows coffee, some light roast, and in the back lightly sweet cocoa powder. The taste is sweet nut up front, the lightly roast char character, and finishes with more of the malt roast. The aftertaste shows some mineral, though it only came out after the roast cleared a bit. The palate is light bodied for the style, lower carbonation level, and a crisp mineral finish. Decent Porter.

Growler thanks to mora2000. Pours with a lasting tan head over a near black, deep brown hued body. Aromas of brown sugar, oats/cereal grain, nuts, grainy, chocolate. Flavors are of brown sugar, nutty, malty, cereal grain, chocolate with a mild fruity ester. Medium bubbles with a fuller body.

Sampler at the joint- served an almost transparent black color (yeah, for real), nice tan lacing on the sides of the glass. Aroma of peat, smoke, and some real malt in the mother... oh yeah! Hits the mouth with a high-medium body, malt was roasted nicely from the feel, some nuts and chocolate in the middle, finish lingers for a little with a faint note of earth as it finally leaves. Good stuff maynard.

Served from a growler filled at the brewery during the city’s Oktoberfest celebration. The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate with some lightly roasted malt and some cream notes. There is also a little bit of hazelnut character in the aroma. The flavor is a strong mix of cocoa and milk chocolate, with some roasted malt. Once again there are some hazelnut notes. There is also a little bit of earthyness from the hops in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Aroma - roasted malt, subtle coffee; Appearance - black, opaque, thick creamy head, laces quite well; Taste - bold roasted malt front, coffee notes fill the back, finish has a very slight lingering bitterness; Palate - mildly crisp, nice body; Overall - extremely well built, a great example of the style.
