This Ale is the first brewed in Kansas since the pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra" comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars Through Difficulties". Weve blended Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts for a rich amber beer. The hops balance this malty sweetness, and weve chosen Northern Brewer and Fuggles hops for their flavor.

A nice beer, and a good representation of its Alt style. Malty with some subtle hop balance, and a rich brownish color (without a doubt one of the best looking Free State brews). While not my favorite Free State brew, its easy- drinking (goes great with chili), and always a go to beer when nothing else on the menu grabs my attention.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2016 APPEARANCE- Dark amber color, in the darker range for an Amber ale, which like. Head is nice, and laces well. FLAVOR- clean drinking ale flavor. Very little hop is evident (bittering or aroma).NOTES-This one surprised me a bit. It?s better than I anticipated.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2016 Weird mineral, slightly astringent aroma with some Sugar Daddy caramel lurking within; amber color, pale beige crown; toffee and caramel, brown sugar, fruity/berry quality in the middle, dried dates and other fruits; earthy bitterness in the finish, balanced overall; light medium body, ample carbonation; tastes far better than it smells, solid amber ale.

Pours an amber brown color with a khaki head. Caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast and light fruit aroma. Caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast, floral, slight fruit and nut flavor with a bit of astringency. Medium light body and medium carbonation. Astringent caramel finish.

A really well done amber, probably too malty for some, but I thought the balance was perfect. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle. Dark, clear, ruby-brown, with a small, foamy, tan head. The nose is light chocolate, figs, toast, toffee, and a bit of rye. Sweet, with a touch of dark sourness and some savory spice. Medium body, silky, chalky, and a little clingy. This is a solid, malty, and surprisingly complex beer.

Pours medium brown with a one finger tan head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malts, caramel sweet malts, grassy hops, earthy hops, and some light toffee. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a slightly bitter, semi watery, medium-short finish. Overall, a decently tasty brown ale that is pretty drinkable.

I love a good Altbier. Definitely a pleasant surprise from KS. Picked up a six pack. L: Clear amber with nice white head. S: Malty and yeasty. T: Balanced. Malt edge with nice aftertaste. F: Medium and smooth. O: Would have again. Great with food (pizza) or without.

bottle at Fresh Seven Coffee in St. Francis. This pours a rich red with a small white head. The aroma is sweet and malt forward, pretty clean. There are notes of bread, toffee, light chocolate, and low spicy hops. The palate is slightly sugary, but definitely still in the realm of enjoyable. Malty flavors dominate with caramel, biscuits, bread and light hops for balance.

First Kanas beer, not too bad. Pours a dark ruby red, almost mahogany in color. Aroma of an English pale ale. Malt forward beer with light floral finish.
