A nice beer, and a good representation of its Alt style. Malty with some subtle hop balance, and a rich brownish color (without a doubt one of the best looking Free State brews). While not my favorite Free State brew, it’s easy- drinking (goes great with chili), and always a ’go to’ beer when nothing else on the menu grabs my attention.

Pour is a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is a nice roasty-sweet caramel malt. Flavor is all things malty. Big caramel malts with some black bread and maybe a little raison. Very tasty and malt heavy with low carbonation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer poured great with a nice dark amber color that passes very little light through it, a nice tan colored one finger head and good lacing on the glass. The beer has a great blend a caramel sweetness, some roasted malt, and mild chocolate scents that come together nicely. The taste is much the same with a sweet caramel taste up front that blends into a roasted malt and mild chocolate follow up, it works well together. The mouthfeel is average with good carbonation but a mild flavor from the chocolate. Overall, a great Altbier from a brewer I have never had before. Recommended.

Malt forward beer. Rich brown sugar and tropical fruit malt notes. Didnt get the hops very much. Balance was off for me.

Bottle, thanks Russ! Strong caramel malt aroma with a touch of hops. Pours dark amber colored with a medium, white head and good lacing. Sweet caramel malt flavor to start. Finishes smooth with only a touch of hops on the finish. Good amber ale.

Decent beer I've had this both in a bottle and on tap in Lawrence. Wouldn't buy it over other examples out there.
