Draft at the brewpub. Malty, lightly sweet aroma, some brown sugar sweetness and faint dark breadiness present, faint cocoa, even a touch of dark fruit in the background and hints of toffee. Clear medium red-brown color, the ivory head is fine and lasting. Malty, toasty flavor profile, more dusty cocoa, toffee, dark sweetness and, moving towards the finish, touches of spicy, mildly bitter hops. Semi-dry, clean and very smooth on the palate, relatively low in effervescence for a lager as well, body is medium. Mostly true to style, perhaps a bit on the hoppy side. That’s no complaint, though, and very Free State.

Draught @ Brewpub: This one pours a clear coppery color. There was a foamy ecru head that left lots of lacing. Nice nose of mainly malts, some roastiness and a bit of nuttiness. The taste is very good. Very malty, yet very little sweetness. Some nuttiness and a very faint roastiness. Very smooth and easy drinking. Nice.

On tap @ Free State. Brown/orange appearance with an off white head. Nutty, caramel malty nose. Very nice lively nutty brown lager. Well balanced with a tasty nutty aftertaste.
