Draft at the brewpub. This is essentially an amped-up version of John Brown. Big malty aroma, plenty of roast and caramel, with dark breadiness, brown sugar sweetness and faint cotton candy in the background. Deep, dark brown color, the head fading away to nothing. Roasty, sweet, fairly bitter flavor, with very mild coffee and hints of black bread, combined with faintly metallic, tangy hop and a hint of raisin-like fruit. Somewhat astringent on the palate, low in effervescence, with a medium body. Decent, perhaps a bit ham-handed.
