4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, USA - NOV 21, 2005
Thanks to beerhandy for this treat. Poured a hazy dark amber with a medium beige head. Tons of hop in the aroma. Citrus, earthy and floral. Covers up the malt completely. Very big hop flavor. Hops right from the start to a long bitter finish. The bitterness is moderate strength. This leans so much to the hop that you can’t tell if there is malt. While not even close to being balanced it is very tasty and drinkable.

On draft in tulip at brewery
Aroma: floral and peaches.
Appearance: light copper color with 2 finger frothy head. He's faded quickly
Taste: very hoppy. Sweet at first follow by bitter. But balanced well
palate: Light crisp and refreshing. Very thin but pleasing.
Overall: very good ipa. Lots of hops. I like it but would prefer a bit more sweetness

On tap @ Freestate Brewery. Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head and plenty of lacing. It has a very floral aroma, that's slightly piney. The flavor is slightly sweet, with a long, smooth, and bitter aftertaste.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 ads135 (514) - Lawrence, USA - OCT 20, 2011
Another great offering from Free State in Lawrence. In keeping with Free State’s success with IPAs and Belgians (their best styles). Crisp, bitter, surprisingly refreshing.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 BelgianBeerGal (2218) - Dayton Area, Ohio, USA - OCT 26, 2010
Draft at Bob-B-Cue in Mission. Darker than expected pour that leaned more towards brown than orange with a tan head and nice lacing. Pretty sweet, fruity aroma but definitely west coast hops in there. VERY balanced flavor that did not overpower you with bitterness and the malt backbone was very prominent. A DIPA you could easily drink on a regular basis.

Growler generously shared by beersis81 on BA at DLD. Thanks, Lindsay!
This pours a somewhat hazy orangish-amber color with a small off-white head. A little dark for the style.
Aroma is big awesome hops, very citrusy C-hops with a little pine. Orange and grapefruit dominate. Some malty notes poke through as well, mainly caramel.
Flavor is also hoppy and citrusy. Tangerine and orange rind along with a little grapefruit as well as earthiness. They say this is west coast style, but it definitely has more of a caramel malt aspect to it than most west coasters do. Some biscuity notes as well.
Palate-wrecking on the mouthfeel with medium-full body and a nice carbonation level.
This is a solid DIPA overall. Wish I could bring some of this back for some of the California IPA snobs I usually drink with.

Growler shared by foppa78 and the KC Beer Saints- thanks guys! This is the first Kansas beer I ever tried (though not the first rated because I got to a few Tallgrass bottles a couple nights ago), sampled at DLD ’10. It was a good one. My notes weren’t though: caramel, tropical and citrus fruits, floral hops, herbs. Great fruit-malt balance. I enjoyed this a ton, and can’t wait to get my chance to try more Free State beers (ahem, Owd Mac!).

Growler. Thanks, Alex! Pours a murky dark amber with orange edges and a light ring of fish-eyed off-white foam. Puts off a nice blend of sweet caramel, oranges, and a little bit of green onions as it warms. Creamy medium body, active carb--very inviting and drinkable. Toast, caramel, sweet nuts, oranges, and mild garlicky onion notes on the mid palate. Mild pleasant sweet finish. Very drinkable good beer.

Growler from foppa78. Thanks Mat! Nose is very caramely with nice fruity aspects (mango, peach maybe) touch of pine and floral notes, a little green onion. Pours orange amber, foamy ring, decent lace. Caramel, big caramel, mango, fruity malty notes, sharp bitterness in finish, a touch of grainy malt shows up too. Floral and pine bitterness, light garlic, a little citrus pith, really nice long lingering hoppy notes. Smooth drinking with nice body. Enjoyable.
