While walking through a field and enjoying a lazy summer evening, our head brewer Steve stepped on a stick that popped up and nicked his leg. Or so he thought, until he found two puncture marks on his ankle. The copperhead bite may have caused a trip to the hospital for Steve, but it also provided just the inspiration he and Chuck needed to name their new beer – yep, one lowly snake in the grass is the namesake of one of our most popular beers.

From bottle. Pours a nice copper with slight head and lacing. Malty nose. A bit creamy with a lot of biscuit malt up front. Finish is much cleaner with a mildly hoppy twist. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours clear copper with a medium beige creamy head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel, hay and pine. Flavor is the same, light sweet, light bitter. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Drinks like a hoppy amber or red IPA, nothing special here.

Bottle from unclemike. Pours light amber with a small cream colored head that leaves a small trail of lacing. Nose of toast and grapefruit. Taste has some bitterness, imo a bit weak per style. Grapefruit and pine on the finish. Body is light to medium. This is right on the line between apa and ipa.

Pours clear, light amber colored with big white head. Leaves some nice lacing. It has a nice fruity aroma with grapefruit most noticeable. Taste was similarly fruity with grapefruit and some sweeter fruit flavors (almost like peach). It has a pretty strong (pleasant) bitterness. The mouth feel is kind of thin but with lively carbonation.

Poured from bottle into snifter, not much head or aroma whatsoever and is a clear deep red/orange...darker than I was expecting. The taste is like a medium hopped bread, very smooth and chuggable (I think the proper term is sessionable, but let’s call it what it is). Quite a big boy for a pale, not quite big enough for an IPA...I like this. A lot.

Nose of moderate caramel notes, light toast, floral earthy hop notes. Pours golden amber, thin head, nice clarity. Flavors of soft caramel sweetness, toasted malts, a touch of herbal and peppery hop notes. Light citrus. Easy to drink pleasant softer IPA

I’m not the biggest fan of pale ales, but this one was quite nicely balanced between the bready and stronger hop flavors. Decent effervescence and smooth mouthfeel. Copper colored with a hoppy aroma as well. Nice drink overall.

Pours a clear copper with visible carbonation and a thin tan head that fades. Hoppy, floral aroma, but not overbearing. Light, slightly effervescent mouthfeel. Strong hoppy flavor, but balanced finish. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for the Daystrom M-5

Had a few of these while passing through Wichita this week. These were bottle pours at the restaurant. A copper brown ale with off white head, aroma of crisp hops, citrus and floral, taste is moderately malty with a fine hops forward flare and excellent bitter finish. A few of the glasses warmed to room temperature and the malt really came forward, very full bodied and tasty. I am a little surprised to see that this is an IPA as I thought it was an APA and a fine one at that. Samll difference and while it may be on the gentle side of an IPA it is an excellent brew.
