COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This dark brown, malty lager uses the Märzen as a jumping off point and replaces the caramel malt of that beer with the chocolate and roast characters of Chocolate Wheat malt. After fermentation and a short period of maturation, the beer is transferred to one of our conditioning vessels and introduced to toasted oak spirals; infusing flavors of vanilla and oak tannins that knit together in harmony with the chocolate flavors from the malt. You can visit the Council Oak on your next trip to the Flint Hills. It’s at this site in what is now Council Grove, KS that in 1825 representatives from John Quincy Adams Presidential administration signed a treaty with the Osage Indians that paved the way for the Santa Fe Trail, westward expansion and ultimately "manifest destiny".

Draft at the brewpub. Toasty, nutty, lightly sweet aroma with hints of cocoa and oak, some light brown sugar and faint hop spice. Clear dark red-brown color, with a fine, fading head. Flavor profile is lightly sweet, toasty and mildly oaked, more brown sugar and faint chocolate, very low bitterness towards the finish. Not nearly as much oak as expected, but that might not be a bad thing with this one. A very Brown Ale-like hybrid lager, quite drinkable.

It poured a cloudy brown color with a moderate off-white head. The aroma was of malt and not too much else going on. The flavor was the same weak malt followed by a fairly bitter hoppy finish. A decent brew.

On tap at brewery. Dark brown with a fizzy white head. Malty lightly roasted grain and woody aroma and taste with a tannin heavy finish.
