COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Imperial Stout is brewed to an Original gravity of 20 P using 10 different types of malt which combined weigh 1,400+ lbs. That works out to 3.4 lbs per gallon of finished beer or almost 4/10ths of a pound in every glass. The dark malts give a roasty flavor and dark color, caramel malts add sweetness and a full body. Three different hop varieties also add their own complexity (and about 78 IBUs). The bittering hops are Northern Brewers which also add a bit of a current-like flavor when used this heavily. The early aromatic hops are Fuggles, the same that we use in the Ad Astra and the Oatmeal Stout. The later aromatic hops are Cascades, the same that we use to finish Copperhead. The Cascades add a bit of an American Flavor to this classic British style.
The Ironman is named for one of our favorite regular customers, Walt Hull, who is a local blacksmith.

Thanks to Eugene for sharing - dark ruby, nearly black, with a soapy lace - aroma is moderate roast, chocolate pudding, coffee - flavor is medium dry, with sharp, almost astringent roast - moderate acidity - some bittersweet chocolate - finish has some ash/char - I want to like it a lot more than I do.

Opaque dark brown appearance. Thick foamy head. Aroma of alcohol, roasted grain, and a bit of mint. Fresh and crisp, not at all dry but rich with chocolate and licorice.

Aroma doesn’t do this beer justice. A bit sweet on the nose but finishes with a nice, warm roasty flavor.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Justin! Deep brown appearance with a brown head. Roasty chocolate malty, earthy, somewhat piney hoppy, fairly herbal, a bit minty aroma. Thick dark chocolate malty, rich cocoa, somewhat smoky, a bit burnt, somewhat earthy/piney flavor. Quite a bit going on and pretty tasty.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks Aaron! Dark black pour with thin tan head, aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, anise, sour fruits, hints of dark fruits, some slight grainy notes. Taste is some mineral notes, chocolate, caramel, some licorice, dark fruits, hints of sour grain, sour acidic malts, finishing fairly bitter but dry.

Bottle courtesy of ygtbsm94. Served in a sampler glass. Pours near black with a short receding head. The nose has pretty heavy roast along with faint notes of chocolate. Flavor is also roasty and just a touch ashy. Fairly bitter as well, though in a way that doesn’t quite work with the stout. Medium body. Not a huge fan of this one; I’d much prefer Backus if I could get it.

Thanks to Aaron for bringing this back from KS to me. Pours rich and dark with a frothy brown head that quickly recedes to a thin film. Nose is roasted coffee, chocolate, wood, hay and leather. Taste is bitter for the most part with a good malt backbone to give some sweet balance. The mouthfeel is crisp and oily. With a heavy body the aftertaste is long. Great beer.

Pours black with little beige head. Light roasted malt aroma with some coffee like notes. Flavor is roasted malt with hint of chocolate. Hops aren’t prominent but provide balance so it’s not too sweet. Light carbonation, nice mouthfeel, full but not to heavy.
