Growler pours orange amber with a white head. Aroma is citrusy hops. Flavor is a heavy handed dose of orange and grapfruit hops. Nicely balanced and very drinkable.

It poured a clear orange color with a white head. The aroma was very hop centric but not overwhelming. The taste was a combination of medium bitterness, but again not too overwhelming, but a great combination. This was my favorite of all the beers on tap.

Very alluringly aromatic blend with an earthy feel and a crisp citrus finish. If the aroma alone doesn’t entice salivation, the beautifully crafted and exquisitely proportioned balance of the artisanal and the cerebral will not leave you alone. I found myself wanting to bath in this masterpiece.

A: The beer pours amber in color with an off-white head.
S: Not the greatest nose on this one. A fair amount of toasted malt(?!) and just a very malty nose overall. There are some floral and grass hop notes with a rather mild fruit and citrus aroma.
T: The flavor opens up with a fair amount of grass and straw followed by some tea notes. Sweet malt in the form of toffee with a strange popcorn note. On the finish, mild pine flavor and bitterness.
M: Medium in body with medium carbonation.
O: I wanted to like this if for no other reason than the generous gesture made by JeepCop, but it just didn’t happen.

Thanks to drabmuh for sharing this growler the other night. Served in a Free Tail pint glass.
Poured a medium peach-copper color with a good single-finger white head and some streaky lacing on the way down. The nose carried hints of light tropical fruit plus a bit of citrus, though everything was quite tame. The flavor suffered from the same fault, though it was generally hoppy. Nothing really stood out, though I did like what was there. The mouthfeel really stole the show, as there was a nice bitterness running through the palate and into a prolonged finish. Well made, but probably more toward the flavor and aroma hop bill of an APA.

Growler thanks to Sarah. Pours a clear amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a grapefruit note with some earthy grains and a bit of citrus and pine backing. Flavor begins with grapefruit with lighter citrus coming through and a bitter pine finish with some earthy grains backing.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 eclaycamp (189) - , Kansas, USA - AUG 29, 2010
Free State Brewery. For my money, it’s clearly the best brew pub in Kansas. Their regular beers are all outstanding, they’ve got a great menu of food, and their seasonals are simply outstanding. I’ve had several of their West Coast style IPAs in the past - the C3 was particularly amazing - so I have high hopes for this growler of Josiah Miller. Pours a dull copper coilor with a foamy and creamy head about three quarters of an inch tall. Aroma is all hops. Spruce and pinesol over grapefruit and freshly cut grass. Mouthfeel is very slick, almost creamy. There’s nice carbonation but the beer almost shoots down your throat. Taste is quite delectable. The taste profile is hop forward, with pine and grapefruit being the two flavors that seem to want to party the most. The malt profile is well rounded, not too heavy, with some Cheerio sweetness. There’s a nice lingering lemongrass finish to the beer. It’s a light bodied IPA that makes for easy drinking. Overall another very solid beer from a brewery that knows what they are doing.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Indra (2361) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - JUN 10, 2010
Draft at the brewpub. Strongly citric, juicy hop aroma, blended with a nice amount of toasty caramel malt sweetness, faint pine and bubblegum in the background. Clear medium-dark amber color, with a fine head and lacing to match. Intensely hoppy flavor profile, leafy, green and fresh, with suggestions of pine, grapefruit, herbs and mingling with a hint of dark malt sweetness. Oily, resinous, moderately effervescent palate, body is medium-full. Very flavorful American/West Coast style IPA, recommended.

Growler, courtesy of beastiefan2k. Thanks for picking this up for me, Eugene. Pours a crystal-clear orange-gold with a loose, fluffy, beige head that leaves a ladder of lace as it recedes. The nose is of fruity, almost candy-like citric hops and a solid malt backing that features Munich and rye notes. On the light side of medium-bodied and silky soft, it transitions to a tongue-squeezing finish of hop bitterness and rye spiciness. It starts off like the girl next door in a silk nighty who steps behind a curtain and comes out wearing a dominatrix outfit; she caresses you softly and then brings out the whip...but I digress. The flavor follows the nose with a light, quaffable quality, but it’s packed with flavor: rye and Munich malt notes, along with others I can’t quite pull-out are backed by solid, bitter, and fruity hop notes that battle with the spiciness of the rye for dominance. While not as well integrated as many of their APAs & IPAs, this is an enjoyable beer. It is pretty Interesting stuff. I love that they never stop experimenting at Free State.

10oz tulip fill at the brewpub, fressshhhh. Its a clear orange/amber color with a nice frothy head that leaves a decent lacing as I drink it. The beer is hop centric (of course). Not too familiar with citra hops but they were not too different that most American hops. Either way its very clean, no unnecessary maltiness getting in the way. A good medium bitterness cuts through the flavor of the beer and lasts for a while. The hops are generally orange/tangerine citric.
