It might get its name from the light phenomenon typically seen in the upper latitudes of North America, but this aggressively hopped IPA takes inspiration from the IPAs of the Pacific Northwest and the hops of the Yakima Valley.

Draft at the brewpub. Dark caramel-apple color with a thick long lasting head that never fades. Aroma is very sticky and sweet sugar. As it warms some icky, wicky hop oils come out. Flavor is bitter and sweet malts with leafy bitter hops. Not to my tastes of hop and malt mix, did not enjoy too much.

Pours a mostly translucent orange amber with a medium creamy off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts, citrus and pine. Flavor of light caramel, nuts, pine and grapefruit.

Draft, from growler. Aroma of fruity, floral, sweet, citric hops and moderately toasted malt grain, with notes of caramel, grapefruit, orange, pine and resin. Clear, deep medium amber in color with a fine, lasting head and very thin strands of lacing. Flavor profile is likewise citric and lightly sweet, more toasty, grainy, caramel malt throughout, along with an array of hop flavors - citrus, pine, and fresh, leafy herb, but even with all of the hop character, the sweetness stays fairly prominent and the finish shows only a moderate degree of bitterness. Smooth, lightly resinous and low in effervescence on the palate (it is from a growler), body is medium. This is no hop bomb, just a good, drinkable IPA such as Free State is known for.

Excellent IPA. Not particularly alcoholic, and very drinkable. Has very tasty notes and aromatic citrus and pine. Hops dominant, but there is a delicious malt base.

On tap at the brewery. Comes a clear light amber with a nice off-white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste is citrus, pine, malt, and a bit of caramel. Nicely done IPA.

Growler @ Exira Beer Summit III. Thanks jcnielsen (Jetson)! Pours a clear dark orange appearance with a tan head. Super spicy, a bit resiny, light citrusy, piney hoppy aroma. A bit chewy caramel malty, lightly floral, very spicy hoppy flavor. Easy to drink. A pleasure. Thanks Jetson!

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2012 On tap at Free State. Pours a copper color with white head. Citrus, hoppy, piney flavors. Very hopped up, very similar to an Oregon IPA. Very tasty.
