COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This very special beer was brewed as a Double Strength Imperial Stout. Imperial Stouts being very big beers to begin with, that puts this at the strength of a barleywine. The Original Gravity is 27.5 P/1118, then the hopping level is very hard to define, though there are enough hops to achieve 100 IBUs in a smaller beer, this beer still has a distinct sweetness due to a high percentage of unfermentable sugars. After fermentation, this beer was aged in old whiskey barrels from the McCormack’s bottling plant in Weston, MO, hence the name Owd Mac’s (owd being a British regional colloquialism for old).

Thanks to ericandersnavy for this. Pours black with a few brownish bubbles. Smells an awful lot like sweet bourbon and burnt malt. Full bodied. Tastes an awful lot like sweet bourbon and burnt malt, and there is some definite oak. I also think there is a dark fruit aspect - and I’m going for dried plum pit. Damn, but it is a tasty thing.

Huge thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this growler. The beer pours a dark brown color with red highlights and no head. There are a few bubbles. The aroma is dominated by the chocolate and roasted malt - exactly as it should be. The flavor is heavy on the chocolate. I also get some roasted malt and a bit of coffee. There is little, if any alcohol detectable in the aroma or flavor, making this big stout extremely drinkable. Medium to thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. An outstanding stout that definitely lived up to the hype. Thanks again Eric.

Growler courtesy ericandersnavy. Huge thanks to him for not drinking it by himself on turkey day! Dark brown color with a slick appearance and a small amount of carbonation. Aroma is huge chocolate malts, roasted cocoa and a touch of alcohol. Dusty nose also. Flavor is very heavy chocolaty with dark malt, roasted notes and a touch of upfront chemical. Great milky finish. This is great but could mellow more.

Growler shared with ericandersnavy. Pours a deep black, somewhat viscous. Aroma of dark roast, coffee, chocolate, licorice, dark fruit and alcohol spiciness. Flavor is the same with touch of bourbon notes. Mouthfeel is very heavy, silky body with low carbonation. Overall, a very big, tasty brew!

Growler from Eric "ericandersnavy" Anders. Hell of a #1200 and a good man. Big black pour with a small, dark brown head. Aroma is thick wood, brown sugar, molasses, sweet, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste is still thick, licorice, chocolate, alcohol, raisins, wood, and oily. Alcohol is hidden too well. Sticky.

Rating #4400. Growler courteously provided by belgianbeergal! I believe this is the 2005 version. Pours with a thick black body and a small brown head that doesn’t last for very long. Aromas are intense. Notes of dark fruits, licorice, sherry, vanilla, wood, raisins, dates, brown sugar and chewy bourbon. Flavors are intense as well. Notes of smoke, wood, candy-like, dark fruits, sherry, vanilla, light oxidation, pepper. Very long duration. Light to medium carbonation. Oily palate. Absolutely no way is this 9.5% (and with a starting gravity of 1.118, this would be a cloying mess at 9.5%...its not)! Really solid BA imperial stout!

Thus beer pours a black with a thin tan head. The aromas are vanilla, coffee, chocolate, dates, and licorish (sp?). The mouthfeel is sticky and bitter with a deep body. Really good beer!

stopped in brewpub yesterday just for this and was well worth the stopOily chocolate with shimmering purple highlights. Miniscule carbonation. Bourbon and chocolate mixture create port-like qualities. Undertones of rich chocolate, alcohol, dried plum, roasted coffee bean, cream, damp wood, and vanilla. Uncannily port-like. Thick, silky palate. Initial note of acidity; followed by a myriad of complexity boasting an insane amount of ripe dark fruit (mostly prunes, raisin, cassis), port, and wood. Delayed onslaught of rich chocolate, caramel, vanilla bean, charcoal, and a delightful dash of acidity in this elegant finish. Aroma is lacking complexity and exudes too much alcohol, but the vinous aspects and the flavor complexity are excellently showcased. .

Cellar temp draught into snifter at the brewery. Not sure of the vintage. I thought 2005 but then a bartender mentioned something about being "last year’s version." Who cares, it was awesome! Dark, oily pour with a medium brown head. Nice lacing at points. Huge aroma of vanilla, bourbon, coffee, and some dark fruit. Silky mouthfeel. Flavor is mostly bourbon up front and then settles into some semi-sweet baking chocolate and coffee then finishes with warming alcohol. Really finely made.
