Commercial Description:
This very special beer was brewed as a Double Strength Imperial Stout. Imperial Stouts being very big beers to begin with, that puts this at the strength of a barleywine. The Original Gravity is 27.5 P/1118, then the hopping level is very hard to define, though there are enough hops to achieve 100 IBUs in a smaller beer, this beer still has a distinct sweetness due to a high percentage of unfermentable sugars. After fermentation, this beer was aged in old whiskey barrels from the McCormack’s bottling plant in Weston, MO, hence the name Owd Mac’s (owd being a British regional colloquialism for old).

Inky black appearance, wiht light brown hints in the bubbles, laces the edges heavily. Aroma: molasses, brown sugar, fruits, cake, roast, some prunes. Flavor is like burnt brown sugar, roasted coffee, sweet, tangy, fruity. Very rich. I really enjoy this sort of Imperial stout. The body is velvety, thick and very cloying. It’s really everything I really love in an Imp. Thanks to Doppelganger for bottling some from his growler for me. And thanks to Aaron for picking it up for him.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this 2005 Vintage. Pours a deep black with brown notes and no head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, nuts. roasted sweet malts, lots of oak, molasses and very sweet. Flavor of vanilla, bourbon, oaky, roasted sweet malts, a little alcohol burn. A bit too sweet for a 9.5% beer.

Thanks to mreusch for sending this one my way! 2005 Vintage. Poured a dark black color, with brown edges, and almost no head. What little that poured was tan in color. Upon the first whiff, I knew this was going to be one ’big’ beer. Aromas of chocolate, molasses, earthy, woody, nutty, and bourbon. Some new hit me with every smell I took. Tastes of bourbon/whisky, chocolate, raisins, plums, vanilla, and some wood. Light to medium alcohol in the finish. Softer body.

Snifter pour at brewpub, 2005 vintage. Pours completely black with a strong brown head. Aroma is very boozy with lots of prune. There is also an alcohol licorice mix as well. The beer has an extremely viscous mouthfeel and reall works well with this brew. The alcohol lets up in the flavor a bit as well. Has a thick black tea-roast-coffee thing. Love the mouthfeel but the alcohol is too strong on the nose.

Tasting with Casey, Traci, Craig, Stella and Loz 27-09-08 this bottle brought along by Casey Pours very dark brown looking quite brittle at the edges and with the thinnest film of head on mine and a few random brown bubbles. Rich, creamy chocolate, silky and smooth with some warmth. There is lots of cappuccino in this along with a good double shot of espresso. Some oakiness and vanilla towards the end, nice.
