COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This dark brown, hoppy ale takes the IPA style into unfamiliar depths of color. Amarillo hops provide the hoppy flavors and aromas of an India Pale Ale complemented by subtle chocolaty roasted notes from the dark malts. The malt bill is very close to that for Copperhead but with the addition of some dark roasted malt for color and flavor. The Amarillo hops are a potent American variety with a distinctive flavor and aroma.

Has a nice golden red color. At first does not taste like a traditional IPA but finishes well on the back side. Will not hop you to death, but allows for a few more to go down over the evening. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap the Flying Saucer. Pours a clear, dark cola brown with an off white head. Sticky on the lips. Earthy, molasses, roasted coffee malts with hints of herbal hops on the nose. Well balanced and lighter bitterness throughout the finish. Pleasant.

Stormwatch Ale from Free State Brewing Co. This delicious dark brown IPA (no it is not a black IPA) was unique and flavorful! Smells of sweet malt, a slightly bitter hop smell accompanies the sweetness, more floral than citrusy. This brew pours a medium to dark brownish red color. Head was light caramel colored and was a good inch. First flavors are of hops, chocolate, and sweet malt. The hops are surprisingly strong and I find that to be WONDERFUL! The hop profile is right on with this ale, it is super drinkable, doesn’t leave you with a sugar buzz or bitter beer face! This ale is unique in that it has a nice spice mid sip as well which is maybe somewhat reminiscent of Ska Euphoria!?!?

Draft at Waldo pizza. Nice copper brown color with a small tan head and thick lacing. Sweet citrus hop aroma and some caramel malt. Sweet and green hops in the flavor that finishes malty.

Sampled at the 7th Annual Parkville Microbrew Festival on April 24th, 2010. Pours a light brown color with an off white head. Interesting peat aromas. The flavor has a surprising fruitiness for a beer of this mild malt intensity. Interesting and should be revisited.

Clear, medium dark brown. Distinct Amerian brown ale character, west coast hops over a dark malting. A little tannic, roasty, not sweet. Wow, good drinking. Acidic, roasted, lots of bitterness on the sides of the tongue. Medium body, pithy mouth, cherry and roast tones in the finish. Very good. Tap, Flying Saucer, Kansas City.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a nearly opaque brown color with orange highlights. The head was thin and light tan. Pleasant citrusy hop aroma and flavor with hints of supporting malty molasses and roast. Medium bodied and delicately sweet with mild bitterness. Not bad.
