COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Golden IPA uses Pilsner and Munich malts to give it a bright, warm color and features American and Australian Galaxy hops to create an aroma that’s citrusy and tropical. It’s a welcome ray of sunshine during the long, cold winters in the Free State.

Grapefruit and pine resin aroma. Bitterness pretty much overwhelms the malt.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Craig. When this beer was cold it was much better. After it had warmed a little, still cold, diacetyl appeared and never went away. The hops are great and the malts are not overwhelmed by the hops. This would be a great beer if it was not for the diacetyl.

a really in between beer. amber colored ipa with enogh malt presence to make it weird if you were expecting an ipa, and then not enough roast by a longshot to be close to a black ipa. a big almost.

Bottle. Pours a clear iced tea brown with a loose off-white head that leaves a web of lace upon the glass. The nose is of biscuity malt backed by citrus, sweet/tropical fruit and (rye-like) spicy notes. Medium-bodied and silky-soft with a lingering, tongue-squeezing, and moderately resinous bitter-hopped finish. The flavor is a step up from the nose, with citrus and passion fruit hop notes over a soft, biscuity malt backing transitioning to a long bitter finish. While the aromatic additions took a back-seat to the malt, on the nose, the hops definitely take front-stage in the flavor profile. As I get deepen into the glass, my enjoyment of this one begins to wane a bit. While the hop profile is interesting, it begins to strip the tongue of moisture leaving a long, "green", herbal bitterness that I’m not really digging. It’s certainly not something I would consider sessionable.

12oz. bottle. Lightly sweet, fruity nose, somewhat malty and citric with notes of caramel, brown sugar, grapefruit, faint earthiness and a certain spicy, leafy tone in the background. Mostly clear medium copper color with a lasting, fine, uneven head, quite attractive and enticing, really. Pretty nicely balanced, with a decent amount of caramel and biscuit malt flavors, combined with a sharply citric, floral, spicy, gently tea-like hop character and a substantial amount of bitterness that appears towards the finish, drying out the profile and lending a clean, lightly resinous feel. Some lingering faint bubblegum notes very late. Palate is moderately effervescent and refreshing, body is medium-full. Certainly nice to see some seasonal offerings in bottles from Free State around here, and to be able to pick up an IPA that is guaranteed to be as fresh as anything around.

Pours a deep, clear amber with moderate head, mostly diminishing. Very nice on the nose - citrus and pine with grapefruit being quite noticeable. Well-balanced IPA with a good, bitter finish. A great effort from the brewers at Free State - Prost!

Pleasingly drinkable IPA with a nice holiday spirit. Grapefruit presence is a favorite.

Pours coppery with an off white head. Aroma is citrusy hop. Flavor is a nice balance of citrusy, fruity hop and caramel maltiness with a light lingering bitterness.

On tap at the brewpub. Comes a clear amber with an average off-white head. Aroma of floral hops and citrus. Taste is florals, pine and citrus. Some sweet malt at the finish. Very good.
