Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Copper colour. Lots of spices in evidence. Spice dominates too much for me. Plus there are some cardboardy notes of oxidation. I didn’t really care for this but I guess, if you are more of a spice fan than I, it might hit the spot.

Bottle at Chriso pre-GBBF tasting 09. Clear amber, lasting beige head. Spice. Tastes like Xmas cake but not in a good way. Too apple clove, too brown sugar. Nasty.

A Mes rate: bottle at the ever brilliant Chris O’s Pre GBBF Extravaganza.
Clean amber with a thin off white head. The aroma is pretty decent. Kinda like a U.S. IPA with a bit of nutmeg and liquorice. Sadly it’s dramatically downhill from here. The flavour is all sultanas and a shit load of spice. Sorry guys, I really can’t drink this. Nothing wrong with it really, I just hate sultanas.

At Chriso’s pre GBBF Shindig ’09. Brown with a small just off white head. Boiled raisin and treacle tart aroma. Taste of spices, dark fruits and orange. Rather phenolic. I see what they’re trying to achieve, though I don’t think they quite manage. Though maybe it’s a bit unfair to rate a Yuletide brew in August.

Bottled, 330ml from Beers of Europe, Norfolk. Reddish copper with white head. Mature and full seasonal ale, but with the addition of spices, i actually get the orange and nutmeg. Some caramel toffee in the finish, pretty reasonable.

Bottle. Dark brown and red with a large cream head. Aromas are weetabix and citrus with herbal notes and spices. Flavours are lemon and spiced oranges with toffee malts. Herbal and spicy towards the finish. Some metallic notes. Reasonable.
