A Mes rate: Cask from Baker Street JDW. Typical hoppy English bitter with a metalic note that I didn’t much care for. Very straight forward, nothing special at all.

Cask handpull at Folkestone Wetherspoons. Gold, thin off white head. Quite a fruity golden bitter, nice citrus peachy finish, in fact the citrus hop finish grows after the final swallow. Aroma of subtle peach/nectarine which is lovely. Quite hard water in mouth.

Doppelganger (1383) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - JAN 3, 2007
Cask at The Rising Sun, Bream, Forest of Dean. Nice little pub. Pale copper, just a fine skim of white that settles quickly. Sweet light citrus aroma, a touch of papaya. Fresh, lightly pithy hops, fresh and bright, toasted baguette in the finish. Light clean palate, though just a bit brighter carbonation would help this one. A nice refreshing beer.

1. Cask Handpump at the Penny Black, Northwich (JDW) 10/11/2003 Golden colour slightly pale and malty. Some bitterness in a hop finish. 2. Cask Handpump at the Penny Black, Northwich 05/11/2004 Golden coloured slightly hazy appearance. Tangy grapefruit flavours. Slightly dry malt finish.

Cask. A very smooth and lightly hopped beer, I tasted caramel in there somewhere. Overall quite nice.

Hand pulled at the Briar Rose (JDW), Birmingham. A strange and slightly unpleasant beer, the first let-down I’ve had from Freeminer. Flat, cloudy orange colour, no head. Off smell - vegetables. I definitely had this down as a bad wheat beer: one with vegetables in it. Thick, syruppy, some sweetness, but mainly odd, sticky, thicky. Some sourness, approaching a Belgian Wit, some Hefe moments too - but not in a good way. Lots of flavour, but not that pleasant.

This is a pale gold colour, but is not really typical of beers of the blonde style, perhaps because it uses only Bramling Cross hops. The aroma is restrained, but, if anything, malty rather than hoppy. The flavour starts with a crisp. lemony fruit rush. There is also some berry fruit peeking through from the background. However, it is rather let down by the finish which is soft and maybe even a bit flabby. Interesting, but not entirely successful. Could do with more hops in my view. Cask (handpump), Lord Moon of the Mall, Whitehall, London SW1.

Murky golden colour with ringlet grey head. No aroma really to mention. Boiled cardboard (coloured) flavour. Rather offensive really.

On cask at Sean Bolans in Baltimore. Hazy, golden color with a big head full of large bubbles that faded quickly. The aroma was malty and a bit on the sweet side. The taste was fruity with very little noticable hops. Finished dry with suggestions of green apple and pear.

Cask Conditioned at The Rising Sun, Bream, Forest of Dean. This is the Forest Pub of the year in '02 and it is easy to tell why, a very comfortable welcoming pub with a great garden. The beer is amber in colour with a complex sweet fruity flavour, almost mollasses with fruit pulp. Heavy palate with a winey finish. Freeminer beers are so much better in the cask than the bottle!
