Pours gold with a white head. Smells of toasted malt, floral. Tastes of dry malt, perfumy and a nice toasty finish. A great summer sipper.

22oz bottle–pours a retaining white head and hazy yellow/gold color. Aroma is sweet light malt, spice hops. Taste is sweet light malt, spice hops. Easy. OK carbonation.

Dull golden colour. Thin head. The aroma is somewhat husky, fresh grain. Soft and slightly tart body. Slightly husky on the palate as well. Finishes a bit doughy and rustic, with a hint of diacetyl.

Nice looking in the glass, a little light on the head, it didn’t stick around very long. Nice citris nose, and a great hoppy flavor.

(22oz bottle) Small off-white head with nice lacing, atop clear light amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, herbal/orange, light bread, flower. Taste is medium grapefruit/herbal. Some sourness as it warms. Quite hoppy. Light-medium body, creamy, light chalk.

This poured a nice hazy golden color with a bubbly white head. Smelled of hops. Flavor was pretty straightforward bitter, hoppy, but not overly so. This is a very yummy and drinkable beer, but nothing hugely great about this one.

porterhouse (1544) - Alna, Maine, USA - DEC 18, 2005
(22 oz. bottle) Huge foamy white head atop cloudy yellow body. Aroma sourish. Sloppy lacing. Mouthfeel light, kind of watery. Taste is citrusy, tangy and sourish. No bitterness. Hmmm, bad bottle or is this how it’s supposed to be? Tanginess actually kind of refreshing but huge head, cloudiness and sourness point to infection here.

There’s that sucking on a pinecone hop reference. The brewer musta been in the midst of a divorce when he hopped this one up. It nearly curls, or uncurls as the case may be, your nostril hairs to smell. This cloudy amber concoction stays lemonade tart the whole bomber way through but, this is my second purchase of this interesting brew and I like it just as much as the first! It’s lively mouthfeel carries this otherwise bitter sweet nectar through the tasting process and the final "let the door slam on your ass" hop kick finishes with finality.
