COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the Comanche chief Potsanaquahip of the Penataka band, this fierce India Pale Ale remains true to the American brewing spirit, delivering long lasting hop flavor and character. Buffalo Hump led the Great Raid of 1840 in retaliation for the Texan settlers’ betrayal under a white flag in San Antonio at the Council House Fight. This IPA represents the unrelenting spirit of our little brewery in north San Antonio, even when it becomes apparent we’ve brought knives to a gun fight. Inspired by bitter betrayal, this bitter brew will remind you to stay true to your sensibilities… and to your word! Ingredients: Belgian pale and crystal malts; four full-blooded varieties of American hops; top-fermenting Belgian yeast strain; natural, limestone-filtered, Edwards Aquifer H2O; Texas Pride.

Coppery and mostly clear with a pretty chewy off white head and pretty decent lacing. Pretty citrusy in the nose,, along with some yeastiness and a nice dose of hops. Tastes very nice, Belgian yeast up front, nicely hopped in IPA fashion, but not overpowering in any one aspect. The ample malt backbone ties it all together. Body is medium and yeasty on the finish. Carbonation is appropriate for the style and rounds out the beer. It’s a nice Belgian IPA. Freetail makes lots of great beer, so I’m not surprised that this one is pretty tasty too.

Bottle:   Orangish amber, hazy, large fluffy off-white head, nice lacing.   Sweet citrusy nose, a little candyish.   Moderately hopped on the tongue, not too strong.   Bitter but not biting, not as sweet as the nose suggested but still has some candied citrus peel aspects.   Very slight pixie stix like powdery sugar flavor as well.   Fairly smooth, yet moderate body.   Finish is light bitterness, a touch citrusy, with that pixie stix like sweetness.   Decent IPA, but not a bright or assertive example.   Thanks for the bottle Bill!

Tap flight at the brewery. Honey colored pour with a white film for a head. Belgian bubblegum yeast nose. Taste is very bitter with bubblegum. Medium mouthfeel. I like the yeast but think it would be better placed in a different brew.

22oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a soapy white head that leaves spots of lacing along the sides. Aroma is a combination of floral grassy hops and some spicier Belgian yeast notes. Some earthiness from that yeast and some lemon zest and light citrus. Toasted caramel malts in the background. The taste is even maltier with more caramel and toasted malts than I was expecting. The hops are present and of the earthy, grassy variety, though they are not prominent. The finish is where the spiciness of the Belgian yeasts come out. Mouthfeel is active with strong carbonation and dry and bitter in the finish. This is a decent IPA/Belgian IPA but not my favorite from Freetail. I think I prefer the hoppier versions of the style.

Nice hoppy nose, clean profile not sharp or abrasive at all. Smooth malt flavor and would make for a nice session beer.

Pours a tea-brown amber and BO hops. Flavor is soapy hops. Average but oily mouthfeel. Weird.

Bottle thanks to Bgthang pours dark orange with a medium fright white head, good lacing. Aroma is big pine and citrus. Flavor is semi sweet toasted and caramel malt, slightly nutty with big fruity Belgian yeast coming through at the end with dry pine bitterness. Good stuff.

Slightly hazed orange pour with creamy white head and lace. Light caramel, bread, and perfumy hops. Taste mirrors aroma with a decent perfumy bitter. Medium body with smooth carbonation. A hinto yeast and a resiny bitter.
