COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Legend has it that long ago, before the Aztecs, the god Quetz chose the Talarida bat to care for and proliferate the fruit of Opuntia-the tuna, or prickly pear. Since then Fortuna Roja-the red crested vanguard, has warded the little fruit from feasting predator insects and carried its pollen across countries and continents as the cacti have travelled from their source in ancient Tenochtitlan. This stunningly bright-hued beer is our hommage to the efforts of Fortuna Roja, its intense tartness curbed only by the fullness imparted by the tunas during its long torpor in oaken barrels.

On tap at Freetail bottle release. Aroma is sour, slightly floral and slightly sweet. Appearance is an absolutely gorgeous ruby red with a pinkish bubbly head and delicate lacing. Medium carbonation. Taste is sour and fruity with hints of rose, lavender, berries and grapes. Smooth and easy to drink. Absolutely does not taste like it’s 6.9% ABV so be careful! One of my Freetail favs for sure!

Batch 2. Had this fresh, and now ~9 months old. Surprisingly lost a bit of red hue since then. Hmmmm.

Fruity prickly pear dances like nobody's watching. Deliciously juicy, a little sour, watermelon galore! A tad reminiscent of of watermelon Jolly Ranchers.

Unique among Amercan sours. Wish I had more than one bottle left.

On tap at brewpub. Pours a cloudy ruby with medium frothy pink head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is sour fruit and vinegar. Thin mouthfeel with a sour fruit and oak with tart finish. A very impressive sour ale from Freetail.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle, thanks to the Boise guys. Notes of celery, fruity, watermelon rind, vegetal, watermelon on the finish. Interesting, it has a nice personality.

Bottle at the 4/13 tasting. Pours an amazing color, pinkish hues with a small white head. A rich nose that really reminded me of a jolly rancher, probably watermelon. The flavor was so unique I don’t know much about cacti: sweet watermelon-like flavors, very juicy, loads of sweetness some oak. Damn nice.

Ruby-peach, hazy. thin head. Aroma lightly acidic, some lemon, watermelon. Flavor has pronounced watermelon, celery, lightly tart and acidic, finishes with a clean zing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

GABF 2012. Multiples pours over the first two days. Pours a clear pink appearance with a pink head. Juicy watermelon jolly rancher aroma and flavor. Fairly tart, but this impeccably tasted like a fucking jolly rancher. Kind of cool.

Generously shared by brystmar over lunch. Batch two. Poured a pink jolly rancher color with a sweet and sour smell. Taste was sour, sweet pear with a watermelon jolly rancher finish. This is my first try at freetail and am left with One of the most unique flavor profiles i have tasted in a beer. Would def like to see what a few yrs of aging does to this one

22oz bottle pours a hazy, grapefruit pink color with one ring of white head. Nose is weird, rhubarb jam, bread and butter pickles, dill, watermelon. Flavor is the same, dill pickles, vegetables, cucumbers, carrot, vinegar. It’s like drinking pickled rhubarb. Acidic finish.
