9.1% ABV, 50 IBU A growing South Texas tradition, La Muerta is brewed each year for Día de los Muertos in honor of our departed friends and family. A big, lush Imperial Stout, La Muerta is full of roast, smoke and chocolate flavors from an array of specialty malts that go into this garnetblack ale. If you are holding this bottle, it means either you (or someone you know with a kind heart) boldly stood in line for hours on the first Saturday of November. Karma rewards those who give selflessly, so share with your closest compadres or a new friend. La Muerta will age wonderfully for years to come – we recommend enjoying one now and save some for the future, if you can. ¡Salud!

22 oz. bottle shared with the group (April 2012). Pours a dark brown to black color with a small tan head. The aroma has dark chocolate, roast, molasses, coffee, earth, and a nice smoke character. The flavor has more smoke than the nose, but doesn’t overwhelm; dark chocolate, coffee, peat, and molasses. Medium plus bodied with a smooth feel. I enjoy the smoky character this has.

Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is soft and slightly heavy. Rich dark malt with some molasses. Unsweet dark chocolate. Malt cream and a touch of caramel. Trace of bubblegum esters underneath.

22oz bomber bonused to me by Highwine, thanks a ton Ed. Poured a good looking medium density dark black with a foamy deep beige head. Aroma is sweet, dark chocolate syrup, soy, cola, some dark cherry skins. Medium bodied that is syrupy with lighter carbonation. Flavor is a bit more balanced than the aroma, sweet dark chocolate, figs, dark toast, burnt marshmallow, cola, soy. Solid beer that grew on me the more I drank it, thanks again Ed.

22oz bomber. Shared thanks to dmac. Pours a thick dark black color with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma is smokey, with notes of vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt, and wood. Taste of bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt, smoke, vanilla, and oak. Slightly boozy.

2012. Had a few bottles of various vintages fresh and now this one aged. Hearty malt roast lays the foundation for bitter dark chocolate dominates the taste. Big, creamy body serves as the perfect medium for these flavors. Boozy warmth compliments a surprising hop backbone as it descends. Finishes dry and mildly bitter. To be fair, this ~6-month-aged bottle gushed a bit and poured with ok much carb (potential signs of infection), yet didn't taste infected. Still a fan.

The pour is deep brown almost black with a thin tan head. The nose is roasted coffee, chocolate, earthy, cherries and light notes of tabacco. The taste is medium sweet and medium high bitter with a nice bitter finish. The texture is a bit sharp at first but then become more soft and creamy after it sits on the pallet. The body is heavy and the finish is long. Neat.

Bottle shared at RBWG, poured a dark brown color with aromas of roast, earth, char and booze. Flavors were a mixture of roated chocolate with some earth and booze. Decent overall.

Bottle from Bill, 5 years old, pours black with thin neige head, notes of peat, pepper, chocolate, char, and wood. A little too spicey for me.
