COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
9.1% ABV, 50 IBU A growing South Texas tradition, La Muerta is brewed each year for Día de los Muertos in honor of our departed friends and family. A big, lush Imperial Stout, La Muerta is full of roast, smoke and chocolate flavors from an array of specialty malts that go into this garnetblack ale. If you are holding this bottle, it means either you (or someone you know with a kind heart) boldly stood in line for hours on the first Saturday of November. Karma rewards those who give selflessly, so share with your closest compadres or a new friend. La Muerta will age wonderfully for years to come – we recommend enjoying one now and save some for the future, if you can. ¡Salud!

2011 draught. Nose is chocolate, caramel, and smoke. Black with a wispy thin brown head. Smoke dominates. Heavy with chocolate edges. Smoke just takes over and penetrates. More rauchbier than stout. But oh so good.

22oz bottle. Deep black brew with a good amount of tan head. Nose is decadent - smoky, chocolaty, roasted. Flavors are big with a smooth finish.

Pours dark like black ink, looks thin though. 2 finger brown head. Aromas of roast, bitter malt, black tea. Very thin mouthfeel. Surprisingly, not very sweet which is always good. Got some chocolate milkshake going on, along with some light roasting and hoppiness. Very light in the mouth, but also has a slight creaminess to it. Pretty solid overall.

A roasted malts, smoke, with notes of bitter coffee and chocolate nose. An opaque black pour with a foamy tan head and no lacing. Taste follows the nose - roasted malt, smoke, bitter coffee with notes of chocolate. Full bodied with minimal carbonation. Overall, this is a brew I look forward each year and it never disappoints. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle generously shared by GatorGuy92. Cheers, Matt! Pours a medium stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, some smoke, some dark chocolate, and some earthy hops. Flavor is similar with big hops, roast, smoke, and almost peaty earth. Medium in body and lingering roast and earth in the finish.

On tap at freetail. Served way too cold. Once it warmed up, it shows a nice smoky and coffee flavor. Black/Garnet red with no head and little lacing. A bit boozy and slightly sweet. Decent bitterness and a good mouth feel. This is a solid imperial stout. Closest comparison would be yeti from great divide.

On tap at the frickin' brewery! Coffee aroma. Dark brown leather color. No head. Big coffee flavor with a well blended sweetness reminiscent of golden brown sugar. Flavor is roasty but not bitter. Not nearly the body I was expecting. Very good but I now realize that this isn't in the same scale as other big stouts with special release days like Dark Lord, Hunahpu's, or KBS. Still glad I got to try it on tap and am looking forward to getting some bottles to cellar. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of my favorites of the night shared by Sparky! Deep, rich, and complex. Godiva, Hershey, and Nestle are all present...vanilla, smoke, cocoa, coffee, ash, fudge, and brownie batter. Quite chocolatey. Decadent. Silky and smooth. Yum.

Vintage 2010 bottle, #221/450, shared by badnewsbeers. Deep charcoal brown-black body, thin discontinuous light brown head. Inky nose with cocoa powder and molasses, smoky, rich, and rather dry. Powder, inky body with cocoa and coffee beans; ashy with milky sweetness. Good but not great.
