COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
9.1% ABV, 50 IBU A growing South Texas tradition, La Muerta is brewed each year for Día de los Muertos in honor of our departed friends and family. A big, lush Imperial Stout, La Muerta is full of roast, smoke and chocolate flavors from an array of specialty malts that go into this garnetblack ale. If you are holding this bottle, it means either you (or someone you know with a kind heart) boldly stood in line for hours on the first Saturday of November. Karma rewards those who give selflessly, so share with your closest compadres or a new friend. La Muerta will age wonderfully for years to come – we recommend enjoying one now and save some for the future, if you can. ¡Salud!

One of my favorites of the night shared by Sparky! Deep, rich, and complex. Godiva, Hershey, and Nestle are all present...vanilla, smoke, cocoa, coffee, ash, fudge, and brownie batter. Quite chocolatey. Decadent. Silky and smooth. Yum.

Vintage 2010 bottle, #221/450, shared by badnewsbeers. Deep charcoal brown-black body, thin discontinuous light brown head. Inky nose with cocoa powder and molasses, smoky, rich, and rather dry. Powder, inky body with cocoa and coffee beans; ashy with milky sweetness. Good but not great.

Bottle from a guy in Texas - thanks! Black with a froth of dark tan foam. Aroma is dry roast, chocolate, bitter coffee, chipotle, smoke, bacon, and spice. Smells amazing! Taste is heavy up front with the smoke, roast, and spice but then there is an odd counter-flavor or sweet, bland malt before returning to the spice and smoke. Mouthfeel is light and a bit creamy. The dry, smoke and spice infused aroma really blew me away but the actual taste of the beer has some odd quirks that require refinement. If they can clean up the body and tighten the flavors within the taste this beer will be really damn good.

Very dark beer with a lasting slick of a beige head. Velvety smooth nose of malt syrup and smoke. Meaty stout with lots of caramel and molasses sweetness, some charcoal and ash notes. Oily mouthfeel. Nice beer.

In short: A big rich and nourishing black beer with a smoky edge. Good sipper
How: Bottle 22oz, very thick red wax top. Consumed when probably 1 year of age. Bottle sent to me by MaltOMeal, thanks a lot Bill
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head that quickly dissipates into a ring of foam
In long: Nose is warm, roasted, burnt dark fruits over some chocolate and hints of meaty smoke. Taste has a lot of mocha, a cup of black coffee, nougat, some smoke, molasses, prune juice, black liquorice, chocolate cake, thick raisins, some peat. Alcohol is relatively well hidden behind this thick wall of malts. This is a big fat nourishing beer, yet it is somehow quite easy to drink for heavy malt orgy that it is. Everything comes together very nicely in this big beer with the alcohol well hidden and powerful flavor elements that push the sugars in the back. Very nice beer. I’m the one always complaining about imperial stouts being too highly rated and yet l keep drinking them and give most of them good ratings, I’m just ironic like that, if I was gay I would suck at giving blow jobs just to be ironic.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Black with a big tan head. The smell is like smoky slim jims. "No.". My first comment after the first sip. Meaty, sour, smoky. A mess. It looked good and smelled nice. The good stopped there.

22 ounce bottle thanks to Craig. Tastes like eating roasted malts. Very grainy, interesting not the typical sweet malty chocolaty beer. Dry and easy drinking.

A: Poured a nice black color with good carbonation leaving a nice tan head and some light lacing S: Big smoke with some cocoa, roasted malt and a light booze sting T: Immediate smokiness with blend of smoked meat, liquid smoke, light campfire and charred wood all rolled up into one. Cocoa, roasted malt and a light coffee note. M: Big body, loads of taste but to smokey for me. O: While it is a decent to good Imperial Stout the smokines and booze mix does not sit well with me
