9.1% ABV, 50 IBU A growing South Texas tradition, La Muerta is brewed each year for Día de los Muertos in honor of our departed friends and family. A big, lush Imperial Stout, La Muerta is full of roast, smoke and chocolate flavors from an array of specialty malts that go into this garnetblack ale. If you are holding this bottle, it means either you (or someone you know with a kind heart) boldly stood in line for hours on the first Saturday of November. Karma rewards those who give selflessly, so share with your closest compadres or a new friend. La Muerta will age wonderfully for years to come – we recommend enjoying one now and save some for the future, if you can. ¡Salud!

A roasted malts, smoke, with notes of bitter coffee and chocolate nose. An opaque black pour with a foamy tan head and no lacing. Taste follows the nose - roasted malt, smoke, bitter coffee with notes of chocolate. Full bodied with minimal carbonation. Overall, this is a brew I look forward each year and it never disappoints. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a half finger mocha colored head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Slightly smokey, roasted aroma with dark and sweet malt notes, dark fruit and alcohol. Some charred wood along with dark chocolate, coffee bean, oatmeal, toffee and caramel. Some fudge/chocolate cake sweetness underneath, balancing out the smoked meat/burnt malts. Slightly viscous medium body with a nice balance of smokey, roasted malt, dark chocolate and sweet booze. Dry and toasty with lots of dark chocolate, coffee bean and oatmeal flavor but it never becomes acrid or overly burnt tasting. There is some chocolate cake, toffee and caramel sweetness balancing things out along with some strong booze in the finish. Plenty of alcohol flavor but never hot or harsh. Not overly complex but has a nice balance of roast, sweetness and alcohol. Tasty but definitely a sipper.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown to black color with a creamy light brown head. A touch of roasted malts with a nice mild, not overwhelming, chili spiciness and a chocolatey sweetness. Similar flavor, but a touch of coffee shining through as well. A bit thin overall for an imperial stout, but enjoyable, with a nice lingering spicy chocolate.

22oz bottle (2013) in a tulip. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some notes of chocolate and coffee, hints of smokiness and some dark fruits, hints of bitterness, and dough. Flavor the same with a nice blend of everything. Smoother texture. A pretty good imperial stout but could be a little thicker and not as sweet.

Black pour. Huge tan head. Tons of lacing. Aroma of coffee, malt, dark fruits, licorice. Taste is pretty close to the same. Fortunately not much licorice. A bit thin but decent.
