Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a clear dark amber color with a minimal off-white head that recedes to a film quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Peppery and fruity aroma. Medium body with flavors of fruit, earthy malt and peppers. Really it tasted like a liquid fruit and vegetable salad. The finish is light hops and peppers with a short spice aftertaste. An intriguing experiment but I just can’t get on board with this.

GABF 2009 at the pro-am booth. Pours a darker than expected light amber/copper- not like a helles at all- dissipating head (from pepper oils/.?)Aroma is similar to a helles- bready and toasty malts, pils, dough, with dried chile pepper, ancho, sweet fruitiness, and light smokiness. Flavor is moderate in the pepper dept, mild heat throughout until the end it hits a little hotter, light crispy crackery malts to back up the light heat- relatively clean. Not bad.

On tap at the brewpub. The smell is cornmeal, chile powerder, chilies, different but pleasant. The look is no head, amber in color. The taste is a little spicey, chile, touch of heat, vegetables.
