COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American Wild Ale.
And lo, before the brewers of Freetail stood two freshly emptied Port barrels, calling to be filled and their potential realized. “To ze lab!” proclaimed staff Astrophysicist Dr. Klaus von Brandenburgen. For hours the brew team and Klaus brainstormed before it dawned on them that Klaus actually knows little to nothing about recipe formulation. “Das Leben ist wie ein Kinderhemd--kurz und beschissen. I am physicist,” said Klaus as he walked away. Left to their own devices, the brew team developed Double Red Rooster, which eventually went into barrels and transformed into this tawny, rich brew with hints of tartness. Es ist noch nicht aller Tage Abend. Ingredients: 2-Row, crystal, melanoidin, special B, chocolate and honey malts; peak alpha hops; top-fermenting yeast; natural, limestone-filtered, Edwards Aquifer H2O; last-minute inspiration.

"Sour red reminiscent of a slightly duller Oude Tart, with the aging in port barrels giving it a nice acidity and a little extra sweetness and oak. Finish is just ok, but it’s a solid sour..."

Pours a darker brown color with off-white head. Funk, caramel malt, and some dark fruits on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with tartness.

Bomber poured a cl;ear reddish amber with a small lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of port, caramel, oak, light coconut and light citrus. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a dry tart finish. Flavors of port, caramel, oak, light vanilla and light citrus with a crisp dry tart lingering port finish.

My first Freetail sour.... Pours a dark, weak coffee brown with a fine sheet of light tan foam. Smells like tart, dark grape juices, some currant, a little oak, some leather and balsamico. Lovely nose. Nice and sour with cherry, grape, and raisin. Some oak, some sugar, a little bit of tobacco leaf. Light bodied balanced well with the slight sweetness and medium carb with a watering finish. I really, really enjoyed this beer. Would love to have more.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thanks Dave for the pour! Clear dark red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of tart fruits, hints of oak, slight vinegar, hints of caramel. Taste is a mix of tart fruit, mixed caramel, toffee, touch of oak, slight caramel, finishing fairly tart, slightly bitter. Tasty.

Pours like a nice black cup of joe in color with a bit of a soapy head. Slight aroma of soil and clay. Nice tangy sour on the palate that finishes dry. Overall a solid brew...

22 ounce bottle thanks to Errl. Pours a darker copper with no head of foam. The aroma is sour and tannic with big vanilla and oak notes coming through. Not hugely sour, but there is a slight tartness here.
