COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American Wild Ale.
And lo, before the brewers of Freetail stood two freshly emptied Port barrels, calling to be filled and their potential realized. “To ze lab!” proclaimed staff Astrophysicist Dr. Klaus von Brandenburgen. For hours the brew team and Klaus brainstormed before it dawned on them that Klaus actually knows little to nothing about recipe formulation. “Das Leben ist wie ein Kinderhemd--kurz und beschissen. I am physicist,” said Klaus as he walked away. Left to their own devices, the brew team developed Double Red Rooster, which eventually went into barrels and transformed into this tawny, rich brew with hints of tartness. Es ist noch nicht aller Tage Abend. Ingredients: 2-Row, crystal, melanoidin, special B, chocolate and honey malts; peak alpha hops; top-fermenting yeast; natural, limestone-filtered, Edwards Aquifer H2O; last-minute inspiration.

Aroma of sour cherries. A dark brown pour with mostly diminishing off-white head. The taste is medium sour - sour cherries, port wine notes. Light bodied with minimal carbonation. Crisp. Overall, enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 ounce bottle thanks to Errl. Pours a darker copper with no head of foam. The aroma is sour and tannic with big vanilla and oak notes coming through. Not hugely sour, but there is a slight tartness here.

Thanks JCB. Pours a soft mahogany brown with a thin fizzy tan head. Lots of dark fruit and vinous notes in the nose, oaky with a light caramel-like sweetness and slight cherry notes. Very nice/round acidity with a lots of dark fruit and a touch of sweetness in the flavor. Light medium bodied.

Bottle shared at Dark Lord Day (Munster, IN). Pours a deep brown ruby pour, great hazy dark body, some brown ruby glow on the edges. Frothy tannish head atop dies to a firm film, laces ok. Aromas are sour fruit, some cherries, some apples, oak and port barrel. Distinct red wine character with some vanilla, balsamic and cherries. A touch of biscuit. Lactic acidity. Initial is medium bodied, a bit more subtle than the powerful nose. Balsamic and cherries, red wine and oak, some biscuit and lactic acidity. Cherries, balsamic, vinegar. Middle is a bit more mellow, nice sourness and cherries, red wine, some biscuit and brown malts. Wet oak, balsamic and gentle carmelization. Backend is dry and sour, nice barrel, red wine and cherries. Finish is a touch carmelized, balsamic, oaky. This beer reallt settles down. A bit of a bigger body but I think the flavors are nice (though much more tame than the nose let on), well integrated. Nice sourness, cherries, and wine/oak character. Pretty nice. Probably not for everyone.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 Thanks to whomever sent this my way! Nice dark brown pour, soapy head and carbonation. Oud bruin nose with modest wet oak. Mouthfeel is light and fairly acetic. Some interesting accents in this one, black pepper and mild chocolate in addition to the tart base. Red wine, dark notes.

Dark and barrely; dates and other dark fruits blend with a strong port wine kick. Healthy amount of sourness before finishing oaky and dry. Another tasty sour from Freetail.

murky amber pour, thinnest cream ring head. Nose is stinging acetic with manure, wet earth, and mushroom. Flavor is old and burnt, earthy and musty across the mid, sweetness throughout especially finish, light caramel and more green sourness. Sticky, grainy body.

Taste is the same with lots of tartness, very dry, Nice base of cherries (?) and lots of tanginess tart. Delicious and a great representation of the Belgian Rodenbach style-well done Freetail!

Bottle provided by Huhzubendah. Thanks! Poured a ruby color with a wispy white head. Aroma was slightly tart, with some sweet, but still pretty tart notes. A pretty drinkable and enjoyable brew. Liked this one a lot.
