COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rarely released in its purest form, Ananke is the backbone of our wild ale program, a base beer used for blending and fruit infusion. Named for the ancient Greek Goddess of inevitability and personification of destiny, necessity & fate, Ananke helps bring order to an otherwise chaotic universe. Such as her namesake, this delicately sour ale’s presence is felt throughout all of our barrel-aged beers. We present to you this batch, with raspberries added in the secondary tank. Stin ijiasas! Ingredients: Pilsen & acidulated malts; raw wheat; flaked rye; Perle hops; top-fermenting yeast; wild yeast & bacteria; natural, limestone-filtered, Edwards Aquifer H2O; raspberries; love

A - pours glowing copperish red with zero head and zero lacing. S - mmm. Nice funky sour. Tart red berries, lactic tartness and cheese funk to the max. Notes of honey, lemon juice, brown sugar, buttery notes, bees wax. FUNKY! M - nice dry sour. Medium body with a nice solid palate. T - funk. This tastes like funk. Nice cheese and barnyard funk. Pineapple juice, Tart under ripe berries, Lemon juice and brown sugar on the palate. End is yogurt, cheese funk, dough and tart green apple. O - nice funky sour raspberry goodness.

Bottle share at Hunahpu’s Day. I thought I had had this at the brewery before, but maybe not. Tart but not overly sour. Raspberry isn’t overpowering.

Big thanks to cfh64 for the bottle. 22 oz. bottle served in a Half Acre snifter. 2012 release. A: Pours clear ruby color with no discernable head. Light frothiness around the edges, but nothing special. S: A lot more funk than acticipated. A little cheesy with some raspberry freshness. There is a mild tartness on the backend with a little wine grape aspect to it. T: Tart raspberry upfront with an almost sweet tart candy like middle. Oaky and red wine-esque in the finish. Mild funk in the periphery, but taste was all about the fruit. M: Light bodied with a prickly carbonation level to break tarness. Pretty drinkable. O: The duality of the nose was something. Very funky in the nose, not as much in the taste and vice versa for the raspberry. I enjoyed this beer, but would have liked a little more balance between the nose and taste. Serving type: bottle

Bottle, shared by Greg (thanks!). Ananke and Raspberry ananke tasted side-by-side. From rough notes.

Ananke - pours gold, hazy; light body, soft carb; sour, musty, cereal grains. Nod goes to raspberry here, but definitely nice.

Raspberry - pours an attractive red-pink; huge fruity raspberry nose, smells like candy (cotton candy meets jolly rancher). Some cherry as well. Very nice.

Bomber at C&G with everyone. Pours raspberry lemonade red with no head. Aroma us sharp tart note, same as Ananke. Taste is sour tart acidic tasty but sharp. Not much fruit or raspberry. Finish is lasting and really sour. Very nice sour.

Bright raspberries in the nose with some funky sourness and wheat. Gorgeous body is deep pink with a scant head. Flavor is excellent. Nice, young tartness that should increase with age given how well regular Ananke ages. Big, vinous raspberry notes are fresh on the palate with a puckering sourness. Crisp mouthfeel, well-carbonated, dry but not taxing on the tongue. An excellent job by Freetail--exactly what I wanted from a ’berried version of this beer.
