COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rarely released in its purest form, Ananke is the backbone of our wild ale program, a base beer used for blending and fruit infusion. Named for the ancient Greek Goddess of inevitability and personification of destiny, necessity & fate, Ananke helps bring order to an otherwise chaotic universe. Such as her namesake, this delicately sour ale’s presence is felt throughout all of our barrel-aged beers. We present to you this batch, with raspberries added in the secondary tank. Stin ijiasas! Ingredients: Pilsen & acidulated malts; raw wheat; flaked rye; Perle hops; top-fermenting yeast; wild yeast & bacteria; natural, limestone-filtered, Edwards Aquifer H2O; raspberries; love

Multiple pours at GABF ’12. Appearance is deep copper with a light pink tint and a small white head. Another funky aroma from Freetail; cheesy, waxy, woody, a touch of tannin, and urine with some raspberries rounding out the back-end. Taste is not quite as funky, sour fruits, raspberry, some strawberry, oak, grapeskin, with light earthy and waxy notes. Medium body with high carbonation. Another great sour from Freetail and I really appreciate the quality these guys are putting out. Well-done!

2012 bottle shared with my brother on Christmas. Hazy reddish-pink pour with a white head. The aroma has some tart raspberries as well as some oak and big seedy raspberry notes. The flavor has some juicy, seedy raspberry notes. There is a good bit of tartness as well as some light oak and wine-like character. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Delicious.

Reddish pour, pink head. Loads of tart berries, yogurt, light lemony notes, some really welcomed oak flavors. This was quite enjoyable.

22 oz bottle courtesy of Chad. Thanks, dude! Shared with the Destihl Crew. Pours a richly berry hued gentle hazed body. Frothy pink head dies to a loose film, well carbonated body with some rich crimson glow and hues. Aromas offer white wine, fuzzy white peach and tangerine, white grape and melon. Gentle raspberry fruit and skin, some funky brett, lactic acid, and gentle sweetness. Good funk, richer sour fruit element and rich barrel nose. Initial is a bit sour, raspberry elements really sour it front and center, good sourness, lemons and grapefruit, gentle white grape, melon. Firm brett, well carbonated. Coriander and orange peel from the base, gentle tartness and funk hit the backend and dry out the palate. Finish is tart, raspberry and lemon, white grape, lactic acid. Dry, a bit bretty, nice carbonation. Rich fruity nose and oak, gentle spice. Great nose, nice sour light body. Really nice, a more firm sourness, raspberry skin and good sourness, smaller body, vibrant sour flavors without getting acedic in any sort of the nature. Tasty and fun offering that really works well. More complex, some more body and further along than the regular Ananke I had last year which was a bit thin and lacking complexity outside of the nose. Big improvement.

22 ounce bottle thanks to errl. Thanks! Pours a translucent red with no head. Fruity, bright raspberry comes through in the aroma along with a solid tartness. Clean and fruity with a soft tartness in the finish. Really nice beer.

(draught) bright red, ring of white bubbles. Nose of fresh raspberry purée, tart, nice barrel notes, raspberry seeds, light funk, smells great. Taste of fresh raspberry, light chewable vitamin, lactic acid, deliciously refreshing.

Strong blast of raspberries right off the bat. Smells like freshly crushed fruit. Puckering sourness and acidity through and through. The modestly funky Ananke base serves as an excellent vessel here as the fruit really pops. Couldn't be more proud that an American-style framboise this good came from my hometown.

Bottle (22 oz). Shared by Seth and his crew at Hill Farmstead pre-3rd anniversary bottle share. Hazy red with pink reflects, small off-white/pinkish head and little to no lacing. Aroma is of raspberries, chardonnay, cherries, fruit tartness, light funk and oak. Taste is slightly sweet and moderately to heavily tart with raspberries & other red fruits, chardonnay and oak. Mouthfeel is dry and winey. Medium body. Mouth puckering. Very good raspberry Sour Ale. I preferred it to the regular Ananke (also shared by Seth). Really tart. Really good!
