The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has some nice roasted malt notes, as well as quite a bit of pine from the hops. The two aspects go very well together.
The flavor is similar. There is quite a bit of roasted malt and chocolate in the flavor, as well as some bitterness and flavor from the piney hops. The bitterness is low to medium. The beer is very easy to drink.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a black body with a thin, frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is citrusy florals and some light pines with a light roast behind the hops. Decent caramel backing offers a light sweetness to balance. Flavor is similar. Citrusy grapefruits with more pines than the aroma along with some fruity florals up front. Nice, dry roastiness behind the hops along with a subtle caramel that balances well. Finishes with a light, somewhat juicy citrus bitterness and some roast that dries this and leaves a lengthy aftertaste. Medium, easy drinking body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a tasty black IPA. Nice, citrusy pine and floral hoppiness with a pleasant roast. Well balanced and easy drinking.
