In Saxony’s mountain capital, the Mountain Beer Festival was a day of joyous celebration. From this tradition comes our Schwarzes Bergbier. As fresh as joy, as aromatic as a beautiful summer day, and so dark that stars twinkle in the glass. Enjoy an excellent beer made in the brewing style of Freiberg. Brewed in accordance with the German purity law.

Aromat słaby, w smaku nieco sztuczności, mocno gazowany. Im dłużej piję, tym czuć gaz coraz bardziej, zakrywa on inne smaki. Średnie.

500ml bottle [Freibergisch Freibier qua Freiburger Freigebischkeit, danke bartlebier!]. Quasi black colour, a ruby red glimmer can be resurrected by dint of backlighting, on top an average to huge, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Dark malty liquorice aroma, hints of malt lozenge, a herbal and rusty metallic touch. Taste is dry, dark malty, hints of malt lozenge and chocolate come along with subtle sweetness, herbal and metallic overtones, roast and rust. Happily no flattering sweetness, sadly slightly too metallic.

9/II/15 - 50cl bottle from a trade @ home - BB: IV/15 (2015-173) Thanks to Bartlebier for the trade!

Clear purple to dark brown beer, creamy beige irregular head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: caramel, bit sweet, some dried fruits. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: roasted, slightly sour, bitter, some dried fruits, malty. Aftertaste: roasted, caramel, bit sweet. Decent schwarzbier!

*Old rating, best before 02.2009. Schönes malzig-intensives Schwarzbier. Schönes Röstmalz, frisch-herb, schokoladig mit leichten Lakritznuancen. Lecker.

50cl bottle bb 04/2015, roadtrip souvenir through near-Freiberg to Freiburg. Aromatic nose of candied malts, roast and dark fruit marmelade. Savoury, metallic/herbal/brothy edge which I appreciate in this style. Taste is a well-dosed mix of prominent liquorice, dry caramel, coffee powder and malt extract with a nice nettle-herbal hop lining. Nothing sticky or dull and immensely drinkable no-nonsense old-timer. Underrated imho.

On tap in Freiber. Freshly brewed. Simple and straightforward schwarzbier. Reminds of a good Estonian kali. Malty with a strong caramel taste to it.

Bottle. Clear dark color, medium white head. Aroma is a bit roasty toffee, metallic. Taste is also light metallic, sweet, light bitter. Typically flat carbonation, with a thin texture. Aftertaste is a bit cara malt, roasty notes, accompanied by the bitter metallic aroma from the beginning.

20cl on tap at Berliner bierfestival. Dark mahogany with a lightly tanned head. Moderate malty and roasty aroma with caramel and herbal notes. Medium sweet , fairly mild flavours and a light bitterness. Fairly nice. (2014-08-02)

Pours out of the bottle in a deep black colour with steady low head and smooth body. Aroma of malt and torf. Taste of malt, dark roasted barley, dark grains, dark bread and caramel. Light finish of chicken stock - something I very dislike in Schwarzbiere (not in chicken stock itself, btw). Drinkable nevertheless but just very average stuff.
