2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Flaska från SB. Grumligt gulaktig med lite vitt skum. Lite kemisk doft med inslag av veteöl och rök. Liknande smak men med stor syrlighet.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml bottle (?)
A novel style caught my eye during a beer run. A low risk beer with a potential reward turned out to be an unusual mixture of smokiness and sourness. Given that it doesn’t cost much and offers a chance to try a style which is not widespread I would still recommend picking up a bottle if you run across it next time you visit the local store.
Aroma / Appearance - A rich billowing head rushes towards the top of the glass. Settling after a minute or two, the coppery bronze base eventually fills the glass with a warm glow. Light ham on wheat dominates with only a tease of cider and vinegar. Dry in tone, it offers a smooth sweet profile.
Flavor / Palate - Mild smokiness tastes like a dash of sliced smoked ham. Caramel, wheat, and delayed wheat emerge after two more sips. The spicy finish reveals a trace of tartness. Ultimately though this has more smoky aspects than sour. My final impression had me seeking another bottle to move on but it provided a nice distraction. Your mileage may vary.

A seemingly odd combination of rauchbier and Berliner Weisse, but it works fairly well. Tart and smokey elements mix together well thanks to a restrained use of smoked grains. Time for other brewers to revive this old style brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
One of the very few Lichtenhainers that came back into existence thanks to a few venturous German micro brewing companies. Loosely structured, creamy white head, colour a cloudy, ’dirty’ golden blonde; peculiar bouquet of smoked malt, sweat, sourish wheat, sour cream, apple peel, meat broth; taste begins freshly fruity with a clear sour stroke, refreshing, green apple and unsweetened yoghurt spring to mind, wheat is omnipresent (as in a witbier or a Weizen - to which this style is apparently related), towards the finish more ’beefy’ and meaty, and above all more smoky, fading into a dry, light sourishness. Very interesting but I’ve had a few more Lichtenhainers meanwhile and so far this is not my style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden but medium pale body with white head and lots of lacing, looks pretty much like a cloudy golden ale or pale lager. Aroma is lemon and milk with a touch of smoke. The smoked element to this is initially quite prominent but after a while the tartness of the lichtenhainer really comes to dominate. I think this may be my first lichtenheiner, certainly my first smoked lichtenheiner. Nice beer.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Slightly hazy golden pour with a white head. Aromas of slightly smoked malts, some sourness, and a pinch of salt. Flavor is slightly smokey and slightly sour with no one flavor dominating the other. I almost feel like they couldn’t decide what direction to take this beer in. Not bad but not great. Needs more of a definite identity.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: Hazy vibrant orange body with a dense light tan head that clings for a bit before forming a near opaque coating.
Aroma: The aroma is slightly of smoked meats with a sweet tinge to it that reminds me a bit of apple and caramel.
Taste: The flavor is mild, slightly smokey overlying a mildly tart but thin body. Some tart lemon noted on the finish with watery unsweetened lemon throughout.
Palate: Light bodied and highly carbonated.
Overall: I wouldn’t buy this again, but it’s not bad. I feel that this could use a bit more flavor underlying the smoke.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Poured cloudy golden with a short white head. The aroma picked up smoky, wheaty notes with touches of lime and salt.. interesting. The flavor found mostly sour wheaty notes and lime, with salt and touches of earth around.. dry, refreshing finish. Light-bodied with lively carbonation.. good feel to it.. weird style, but I enjoyed it.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Light misty, small grey lacing. Funky, light bready malts, lactic, herbal. Okay. Taste is more pronounced and quite unique. Sour smoothness, butter milk, candy, apricot. Nice. Drinks quite well too, despite active carbonation. Interesting drink, full flavoured for the abv. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)
