3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is a cloudy amber with a huge white head. Aroma is a small smoke, grilled meat with some lactic sourness. Flavor is tart and a bit sour with a nice chewy wheat malt. Some of the smoked malt comes out in the backround but it mostly appears after the swallow. Flavors are kinda mellow. The sour and smoke are there but not over the top. Iíve never had a lichtenhainer beer before so I have nothing to compare it to but I guess its a cross between a gose and rauchbier. Although itís neither overly sour or smoky.

Cloudy golden color with compact head. Very nice aroma, smoke, but also apples, probably because, I think, this is old. Smooth mouthfeel, some smoke, salt, mild acidity. A bit weak in the final.

Cloudy deep blond color with almost no head. Mild aroma of sour malt, delicate fruity touch. Smooth mouthfeel; the combination of lactic sourness and smoked malt is delicate and very nice; the bitterness is quite low; ends with mild lemony acidity.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice display of sour apple tartness & more traditional hefe like qualities. The fruity, sweet and sour aroma is brought together by a subtle but ever present smokiness, that comes through a little in the flavor as well. If the beer has a fault, it may be a little too yeasty and full for the style, but damn itís complex and tastes great."

I love this style, so complex. Barnwood and slight mold and awesome lactic sourness. Each flavor popped up all over. Fantastic version. A++++

This beer was straight up blue cheese, both in the nose and taste. Slightly sweet, but cheese overwhelmed it. I love blue cheese and I love beer, but not united like votron.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Mikkeller Bar. Looks nice with a deep cloudy almost glowing orange body. It also has a small white top thatís leaving nice small blondes down the sides of the glass. It has a nice not to overpowering smoky beefy nose this. I even get traces of licorice and some grains. Lots of flavor! Itís a bit sharp and sour at first perhaps, I get hay, pickeled salty lemons and some really nice brett fruity thin in the back. In the mouth it feels light oily and it has a relatively high carbonation level. Not too much though. The smoke is not disturbing at all and honestly I donít even notice it until the aftertaste. However itís quite present in the aftertaste, but I kinda like it. Good stuff! 12.01.2014

Half liter into Les Rouges - nose is campfire. Sip adds sour citric nonsense that just blends with the smoke. Smoke really makes me appreciate the sourness of the beer south better. The tartness also helps. I get latent and obvious wheat. And odd beer I normally wouldnít drink but the smoke allowed me to approach it.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at Paradiso Dupont. Pours a very hazy gold with some thin, white head. Nose has loads of smoke, grass, wheat chaff. Flavor follows along, some tartness finally, yogurt, vitamin C, plenty of smoke here too though. Medium bodied finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
The stronger version of their Abraxas and only the second of three or four Lichtenhainers, resurrections of an extinct German beer style (since WŲllnitz restarted production in 1997), that Iíve had so far. Fairly big-bubbled, snowy white head, colour a cloudy peach blonde. Nose gets clear lactic acid (sour cream, unsweetened yoghurt), wheat, lemon zest, dry white wine, green apple; taste begins citrussy sourish with a hint of orange, emphatically wheaty, slight smokiness (more subtle than in the Abraxas?), finishes long and dry due to the lactic acidity, hops only present for structure, as in most wheat beers.
