COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness. Brewed until 2012 at Braustelle (375 ml bottle), from 2013 at Göller in Zeil (330 ml bottle).

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Murky, opaque orange and gold with a head that settles to a thin, white collar quickly. Aroma is sour wheat, some tart lemon, a mild funk and a good touch of sweet, liquid smoke malt. Tart, sweet, subtly smokey. Taste is a bit of sharp, lightly acidic lemon notes, sour lacto with a touch of wheat. Powerful smoked malt; lightly sweet, like liquid smoke with a mild char note. Finish is smoked woody and dying, wheaty tartness. Strange, different, but good.

Cloudy orange-amber with a foamy white head. Aroma is tart with a hint of ash, bread, spice. Flavor is upfront ashy smoke, a bit tart, a bit sweet, and maybe even boozy. Smoke really dominates.

Clear golden colour, white head. Smoky aroma, light lactic acid, ash and malts. Sour flavour, yoghurt, lactic acid, light ash. Warm finish, chery, malts, only a hint of sour. Nice to see Freigeist trying to recreate old styles, with very tasteful results.
(From 330mL bottle @ Gents Bier Festival 2013. As Freigeist AbraxXxas Berliner Weisse mit Rauchmalz.)

Small offwhite head. Hazy deep yellow body. Smoky sugary mealy aroma. Dry-acidic mealy smoky wheaty taste with fruity lemony notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dry smoky mealy aftertaste with fruity notes. Nice, drinkable, unusual. (0.33l bottle shared by Ole_R.)

Draft at Pig and Pickle. Pours golden and cloudy with a thin white head. Definitely getting some sourness on the nose. The sourness is nice. I wish it was a little saltier but it’s a very refreshing beer out here in the desert.

Bottle from Braustelle. Drank in the Groot Begijnhof. Lightly smoky wheat aroma, bready, light lemon, creamy but not quite lactic. Dark golden-orange, cloudy, with a fine low head. Tart flavor to start, lemon, yogurt, with bread and smoke. Interesting Smoke and bread come more in the middle palate, and then back to lemon with some lingering smoke. This really works, somehow! It is refreshing while still being quite meaty and satisfying.

(Many thanks to Sammy for the trade.) Funk, earthiness, and hints of smoke comprise the aroma. Pours a cloudy orange with a thin, quickly disapearing white head and no lacing. The taste is tart. Citrus followed by a smooth pleasing smokiness. A very satisfying balance of flavors. There is also a lemon/grain aftertaste present. Medium-light body and mild carbonation. Overall, very enjoyable!

Bright lemon aromas and a hint of smoke. Very light body with a creamy mouth feel with almost no carbonation. The taste is sweet and moderately tart. The lactic acid dominates the flavor but smokiness sneaks in at the end.

330ml bottle. Footed Flute glass. Pale brass, foggy appearance. White froth, close crown. Fairly good retention. Lasting thin layer on top. Gentle acidic at first -wine like- followed by slight sugar & bready notes. Light to medium body. Moderate carbonation but funny palate. Oily texture. Citric astringency in the middle rounded by sour fruity notes - green pears & apples. Low bitterness. Long acidic finish & subtle hops on the aftertaste. Refreshing & easy

Enjoyed at the 4de Gents Bierfestival, 2013. The bottle pours with an opaque gold to copper body that supports a light tan head of foam. The modest aroma offers up red apples, pears and some sweet sugary maltiness. The taste delivers some grainy sour mash like malts to go along with lemon and lime and soured wheat husks. Pretty cool. Beyond those notes I get a light smokiness too. I like it. It’s crisp and fresh and refreshing.
