COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness.

Bottle and served in my Ayinger Hefewizen glass: Pours a cloudy golden hue with a long lasting frothy head and good lace. WOW, what an interesting nose. Light to moderate rauchmalt smokiness along with light lactic acid sourness on a bed of wheat. Ever so slight banana and clove as well with a lasting bacon character. The taste shockingly works as neither the smoke nor the sourness dominates the other along both to display the best of what they are. The lighter sprite body and mouth watering sourness makes this the easiest drinking smoked bier I have ever had. Not only do I want more I also want to try the "regular" Abraxas too. YUMMY!

From the tap poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Light malty sour flavor with a quick finish.

0,33 cl bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Cloudy light golden with a fair white head. Aroma: Pleasant caramel/sour cherry like a Flanders Red, mixed with light Rauchbier smoke, a touch metallic, kinda lactic, a bit phenolic and peaty, interesting. Palate: Medium+ body, silky effervescence. Flav.: Sour cherries and nice toffee malts, a la Flanders, subdued smoke, light lactic points, quite drinkable; dry with minimal bitterness and gentle tartness with a lightly smoky, bright fruity finish.

Sounded like a challenge, but was quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Nose has some nice, smooth smoked beechwood and otherwise bright and sunny citric malt. Hazy yellow-golden pour with a foamy off-white head. Taste is quite tart, beautifully milky lactic above lighter citrus, and that rests upon the even lower foundation of smoke, rills of which occupy and beautify the aftertaste with companion woodiness. Just a touch of black currant skittle, not too puckering, no bitterness or even real sweetness here (it’s controlled and obviously secondary), and yeast is even more downplayed than the alcohol. Light floral/juniper swipe on the edge and the accents really sparkle. Medium body has a nice juiciness to itself and the overall package of flavor is hugely moreish. I crave more commercial Lichtenhainer, even bigger versions like this.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2013 500ml bottle. Thick, unfiltered golden-orange. Creamy, massive white head. Smoked malt and sour banana tones are an odd combination, but the creamy yeast tones really hold it together. Sort of like if you mixed 2 parts Hefeweizen, one part Berliner Weisse, and one part a light colored Smoked beer. Highly unique and pretty much what I thought the Gratzer style was. Quality offering, well worth seeking out.

37,5 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 02.06.2011
Aroma is weird and refreshing with something familiar like cloudberry. Also some urinal cake and citrus. Flavour is really sour with citrus, urinal cake, sorbus and lactic acid. Not my cup of tea.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy golden with a little sediment and a white head that leaves virtually no lacing. Aroma is tart citrus, pepper, and a hint of smoke. Flavour is tart citrus, pepper, and just a tiny hint of smoke.

Pours a hazy yellow golden color with a three finger fizzy head. On the nose its got some citrusy doughy aromas with a touch of sour smoke. The palate follows suit witha nice balance between sour and smoke all wrapped in a round refreshingly cereal malt.

Cloudy piss yellow pour medium foamy head. Too sour for my liking but not terrible. Light fruity notes.
