This beer was straight up blue cheese, both in the nose and taste. Slightly sweet, but cheese overwhelmed it. I love blue cheese and I love beer, but not united like votron.

On tap @ Mikkeller Bar. Looks nice with a deep cloudy almost glowing orange body. It also has a small white top that’s leaving nice small blondes down the sides of the glass. It has a nice not to overpowering smoky beefy nose this. I even get traces of licorice and some grains. Lots of flavor! It’s a bit sharp and sour at first perhaps, I get hay, pickeled salty lemons and some really nice brett fruity thin in the back. In the mouth it feels light oily and it has a relatively high carbonation level. Not too much though. The smoke is not disturbing at all and honestly I don’t even notice it until the aftertaste. However it’s quite present in the aftertaste, but I kinda like it. Good stuff! 12.01.2014

Half liter into Les Rouges - nose is campfire. Sip adds sour citric nonsense that just blends with the smoke. Smoke really makes me appreciate the sourness of the beer south better. The tartness also helps. I get latent and obvious wheat. And odd beer I normally wouldn’t drink but the smoke allowed me to approach it.

On tap at Paradiso Dupont. Pours a very hazy gold with some thin, white head. Nose has loads of smoke, grass, wheat chaff. Flavor follows along, some tartness finally, yogurt, vitamin C, plenty of smoke here too though. Medium bodied finish.

The stronger version of their Abraxas and only the second of three or four Lichtenhainers, resurrections of an extinct German beer style (since Wöllnitz restarted production in 1997), that I’ve had so far. Fairly big-bubbled, snowy white head, colour a cloudy peach blonde. Nose gets clear lactic acid (sour cream, unsweetened yoghurt), wheat, lemon zest, dry white wine, green apple; taste begins citrussy sourish with a hint of orange, emphatically wheaty, slight smokiness (more subtle than in the Abraxas?), finishes long and dry due to the lactic acidity, hops only present for structure, as in most wheat beers.

Bottle. Didn’t really know how to rate this one because I’ve never had anything like it but it was good. Cloudy, gold color with a nice head. Aroma was a sour, smokey smell. Taste was Like a smokey white wine.

Draft. Hazy golden pour with tan head. Light tart fruit, hints of smoke and roasted malt aromas. Flavors follow, smoke is more influential on the finish.

20140627 tap at OLAR. Who the heck are Freitgeist and why are their beers so delicious? So...another smoky, tart, wheaty, refreshing alternative to lemonade and sprite. Why not!? Smoke is perfect. I drank it with cilantro and chiles and it matched fantastically.

Draft at Local 44 in Philly. Hazy orange-brown, creamy tan head, nice lacing. Smoky tart aroma with light lactic, soapy notes. Flavor is bacon, smoke, tart green apple. Quite dry and refreshing, if weird!
