Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness. Brewed until 2012 at Braustelle (375 ml bottle), from 2013 at Göller in Zeil (330 ml bottle).

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Deep amber pour with a thin white head. The aroma is softly smoky and a little bit of light sourness and a bit of soft fruitiness. There’s a bit of salty character and a bit of lingering oak smoke character. A touch of wheatiness. Really interesting brew.

Pours from the bottle cloudy grainy hazy golden with a one finger white head. Aroma is weird! Smokey wheat and spice, yeast funk. Flavor is fruited smoked bacon, apple, hint of yeast and spice. A smoked brew for sure. Light medium body with plenty of carbonation. Lingering smoke. This is weird. Not bad, but a strange combo of light weisse and dark smoke.

Light amber-ish, hazy pour. Minimal carbonation. Subtle hints of ash, tart apple and sour wheat layers, with a mild yeast quality. Hints of sweet wheat, banana/fruit and more ash as the beer warms, though seems to finish dry. Best chilled, not cold. Delicate, simple and refreshing overall. Some age in bottle might increase and benefit a desired sourness. Nice. Enjoyable. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Le breuvage parfait pour ’’détenter’’ après deux nuits de camping en plein déluge glaciale. Corps filiforme, notes de fûmées soudées au lactobacilus, finale insistante, buvabilité fluctuante.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Murky, opaque orange and gold with a head that settles to a thin, white collar quickly. Aroma is sour wheat, some tart lemon, a mild funk and a good touch of sweet, liquid smoke malt. Tart, sweet, subtly smokey. Taste is a bit of sharp, lightly acidic lemon notes, sour lacto with a touch of wheat. Powerful smoked malt; lightly sweet, like liquid smoke with a mild char note. Finish is smoked woody and dying, wheaty tartness. Strange, different, but good.

Cloudy orange-amber with a foamy white head. Aroma is tart with a hint of ash, bread, spice. Flavor is upfront ashy smoke, a bit tart, a bit sweet, and maybe even boozy. Smoke really dominates.

Clear golden colour, white head. Smoky aroma, light lactic acid, ash and malts. Sour flavour, yoghurt, lactic acid, light ash. Warm finish, chery, malts, only a hint of sour. Nice to see Freigeist trying to recreate old styles, with very tasteful results.
(From 330mL bottle @ Gents Bier Festival 2013. As Freigeist AbraxXxas Berliner Weisse mit Rauchmalz.)

Small offwhite head. Hazy deep yellow body. Smoky sugary mealy aroma. Dry-acidic mealy smoky wheaty taste with fruity lemony notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dry smoky mealy aftertaste with fruity notes. Nice, drinkable, unusual. (0.33l bottle shared by Ole_R.)
