Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness. Brewed until 2012 at Braustelle (375 ml bottle), from 2013 at Göller in Zeil (330 ml bottle).

On draught at Lord Hobo 1/10/14
Slightly hazy, peachy-brass colored beer has a small, rapidly receding off-white head. Liquid seems moderatley carbonated.
Somewhat of a weak nose, mostly due to the lactic acid dulling the smoke. Very little sign of malt, just a touch of grainy/crusty breadiness. Faint esters as well, but I didnt get much of the strong banana or bubblegum I see in others notes.
Lactic acid right up front, with a pinch of smokiness (very dry and reserved) which leads to...very little. Malt is fully attenuated, with little to no dextrines providing for a very, very light body. Seems to be on the very low threshhold of mash temps. I suppose this is ameliorated by the fact that it’s highlighting sour/astringent/tannic flavors anyways, and it seems to be the point of the beer to have no sweetness and very little body. Still, when your malt is just some dry, crackery/crusty breadiness and the smoke is equally dry and light, what are you really doing? Drinking a glass of lactic acid. Could be worse! But I’ll stick to lambics and session-hop beers like guinea riner, if I want to go that route. For 6% abv, I’d expect a lot more flavor. This is what I’d expect the lower abv version to taste like.

Deeply golden body, with an ok head. Feint sweet bubblegum nose that strengthens after extended aeration and is accompanies by candi malts. The body is full of candi malt as well as sweet bubblegum. Mildly tart with a strong wheat backbone. Sour bubblegum finish.

Draft at Uber in Seattle. Another nice surprise. Hazed golden beer, big soapy foam. Mild lagering, great full wet beer, sweet tart and savory. Very full, nice flavor, some salty undertones. Very balanced, lovely

330ml bottle. Pours a cloudy deep straw, with a quite thin white head. Smoky, funky aroma, malt, caramel, phenols, yeast, earth, toffee, iodine, cured meat. Dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Smoky, sour, funky taste, malt, caramel, iodine, phenols, earth, horse blanket, spices. Very odd, but very interesting and well balanced. Amazingly high dinkability. (2014-01-06)

Draft at Brouwer’s for Sour Fest last year. From notes. Aroma: Bubblegum, floral, and smoky. Appearance: Hazy, straw. Small white head, fine bubbles, some irregular lacing. Taste: Really, *really* smoky. Some salt; toast at the end. Not particularly tart. Palate: Decent carbonation, very quaffable. Overall: This was one of my first experiences with the style, and found it to be pretty unique. Not something that I’d like to drink that often, but cool to try.

A slightly cloydy, dark yellow beer with a dense and medium head. The nose is slightly smoky, fruits, some sourness, interesting. Taste is then clearly sour, some fruits, also smoke, slightly earthy and dry. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, quite fresh. A very weird beer, but still quite interesting, smoke and sourness.

Esperimento eccezionale che lascia di stucco. L’affumicatura gioca un ruolo fondamentale nella complessità di questa birra che crea un nuovo paradigma di acidità. Da provare assolutamente!
