COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness.

Aroma of slight smoke, salt, lactic notes, honey. Appearance is light gold with fluffy white head. Flavor of light smoke up front, lightly lactic and tangy in the finish. Palate is light, creamy and flat. Tasty.

Bottle from EithCubes. Hazy, golden orange body with a lasting, fluffy white head. Light sourness and wheat in the nose. Reminds of a Beriner Weiße. Light, fruity esters and a strangely pleasant, metallic hint from the smoke. Citric tartness pops through upon the first sip. Lovely, light smoke and some grainy malt. A little sweet orange peel is there, too. Medium body with medium carbonation. Tartness is coating and lingering on the tongue. Overall a very tasty beer and the smoke is integrated beautifully. I’m a fan.

Got served this one by mistake at Brouwer’s Sour Fest 2013. Cloudy, cloudy orange. This is like a smoked beer from Schlenkerla with a squirt of a gueuze in it. Smoke comes through and dominates the minimal lactic notes. Not too impressed by this one.

Bottle at Braustelle, Ehrenfeld Koln, 27/04/13. Hazed golden amber with a thin white head that clears to a film. Nose is apple sauce, light spice, soap, grass, light smoke. Taste comprises sour apples, light sugar, caramel, toffee apple, tarte orchard fruit, malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish. Ok but not quite tarte enough for a gose.

Freigeist Abraxxxas is a unique and refreshing German beer. It is officially listed as a Lichtenhainer style. Abraxxxas has a clear but darker amber color with a white head. Aroma is lightly fruit -- kind of like a lemon. Taste is well balanced mix of lemony fruit, wheat and yeast with a touch of sourness (no pucker factor.) Finish is clean with no aftertaste. Very enjoyable. Give Freigeist Abraxxxas a try if you find it; you don’t come across this style very often (at least in the US.)

Stouts III Tasting. Thanks Paul! Cloudy gold beer, little white head. Palate is dry and crisp from fine carbonation. Very light sourness, little lemon but not sharp. Mild smoke. Overall the flavour is a bit watery and yet the palate is bit dry. Finishes with some fruit coming in. Not my favourite from this brewer.

Pour is dark golden orange with heavy haze and a tight white head. Nose has a lot of lemon and golden fruits and golden raisins. Notes of lacto, cream, pear with a fair bit of smoke especially as it warms. Taste has a fair bit of lacto, there are bright golden fruits, pear, mango, lemon. Body is creamy with a cream flavor and light sourness in the finish with moderate carbonation. Body is a bit full and carb a touch low. The smoke comes in towards the back, nicely balanced and more present as the beer warms. Very interesting take on a Berliner, the lacto and smoke dominate the front and back with a nice bright fruit flavor.

500 ml. bottle from City Beer. It pours a nice orange color with an off white head. The aroma is pleasant enough with some mild smoke and lactic tartness. A little sweaty peaches and banana. The flavor is kind of soapy with a little bit of peaty smoke and saltiness behind bigger notes of fruit and bread. Peaches and a hint of lemon with doughy malts near the finish. A touch lactic and stronger saltiness in the aftertaste. Not very sour at all and a big too doughy. Nice smoke flavor though. Pretty interesting beer.

1/2 Pint @ Homo Sibaris (Tap). Pours pale orange, quite foggy, with small creamy head (lasting). The nose is mostly wheat with hints of cereals and smoke. The flavour is similar, more smoky than the aroma (bacon notes), with a nice citrusy touch in the back...even some spiciness. Very well balanced, not difficult to drink at all. Medium body, perfect carbonation. Good brew.

Hazy golden, froathy persistent white head. Citrus, tart aroma. Taste is peat, smoke, wood, tart and citrus. Citrus finish. Medium body, soft carbonation
