Bottle at ACBF 2011. Black - offwhite head. Vineous, burned, fruity, sweetness, vanilla, raisins, licorice, caramel, coffee, roasted, light oakey, light wooden. Nice.

Milder und runder Beginn von süßlichen und cremigen Malznoten. Holzige Vanillenoten sind ab dem Mittelteil verstärkt vorhanden, weich, süffig, später deutlich breiter werdend, intensive Malzigkeit, karamellig. Nur wenig röstig. Sehr gut! 7/11/12/14/13/12

(375ml bottle) Pours a dark brown (near black) body with a spare beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, vanilla, wood, toffee, light pepper, and caramel. Flavor of roasted malt, vanilla, smoke, licorice, caramel, tobacco, and wood.

In short: A roasted with vanilla oak and marinated onions. Almost acceptable.

The look: Very near black body topped by small beige head
In long: As with the regular Caulfield, the nose emanates marinated onions but not to the same level of the base beer. The beer also smells a lot less vinous and fruity than the base beer. All that is replaced by vanilla kissed wood chips. Taste is more of the same. Straight forward roasted chocolate chips cookies, vanilla, wood, some annoying marinated onions. The rye of the base beer is a lot more discreet here, same with the fruity and vinous characteristics of the base beer. Also this bottle was properly carbonated while the base beer bottle I had was nearly flat. Overall, not really enjoyable yet much superior to the regular Caulfield bottle I had a few days before. I am now so mad at myself for neglecting to ignore this brewery.

At ACBF 2011. Vanilla aroma. But good vanilla. Bit like a red wine on the aroma. Some toffee. I quite liked it. Good balance, vanilla worked well.

bottle thanks to bu11zeye. black with ruby highlights and a cream head. nose is heavy roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, and more coffee. chewy palate, roasted malts, vanilla, and a roasty finish.

Aroma is surprisingly light with vanilla, toffee and oak. Kind of reminds me of a light British stout. Flavour is bitter and tart in a harsh way. It has burned malt, really dark chocolate and lactic acid. Way too burned and bitter – just like the original Caulfield.

Pours murky dark red colour with minimal head. Aroma of tar, mild vanilla notes, some coffee, chocolate, ash and sour rubber-like fruits. Flavour of coffee, vanilla, some sour berries, mild chocolate and malts. Way too sour to be pleasant.

Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a thick beige head. Aroma of vanilla, roasted malts and some wood. Flavour of roasted malts, weak vanilla, oak, bitter chocolate and some sour notes. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel and a long, warming, fruity and somewhat sour finish. Quite rough really.

37,5cl bottle @Pikkulintu. Poured black with a beige head. Aroma has strong vanilla notes along with red wine like notes. Vanilla and sweet liqueur like flavors. Too much vanilla in this one.

Diskret doft, svaga brända toner med en touch av rökighet. Fyllig vätska, tydlig rökmalt och kaffe. Trevlig men lite kort eftersmak.
