German example of a totally non-German style, actually a rye beer modified into an imperial stout. Beige, moussy head, black colour. Aroma of fondant, toasted bread, peat, rye, liquorice; malty taste with chocolate and liquorice, sourish touch from the rye, bit earthy, long dry roasted bitter finish.

On tap at the Alibi Room for Camrapalooza 2014, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out lots of grainy notes, sweetness from the rye no doubt, with roast and caramel. Flavour is rich and hearty, with sweet caramel malt, roast and grainy notes. Very robust, silky and thick on the palate. A little sweet but not cloying. Good stuff.

Bottle at the "Lets celebrate the fact that Dean is already the Mayor of M&S Den Haag even though it’s only been open for 24 hours tasting!". Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is sweet malt. The flavour is medium it strong bitter with a rich alcoholic liqourice bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at Klooster, Delft. Pours near black with a ring tan head. Aroma of big roast, barrel notes, caramel, overripe dark fruits. Flavour is over moderate sweet and bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Funky rye aroma--easily spotted and off-putting to me, but I have a bad history with rye beers. Murky, grassy aromas, like someone near me is chopping hay. Flavor is a bit smokey, and the palate is balance, frothy and rich in equal measures. Interesting, not great. (on tap, Church Key, Washington DC)

Pours black with no head or lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, smoke, some sour. Taste is the same. It’s ok, but the more I drink it, the less impressed I get.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Pours a dark brown color with no real head. The aroma has a lot of alcohol and some roasted malt thrown in. The flavor is more complex. I get a lot of chocolate and roasted malt as well as some dark fruit. Thick mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Bottle. Strong liquorice aroma. Diesel oil, quite rough. Maybe the rye does not add much to the proceedings. Dry, on the sour side.
