_angst_ (3146) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 20, 2015
Bottle bought @ bisrkompass.de. Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a small frothy brownish beige head that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sour, malty and fruity with dark bread, lemon juice, dark grapes, sour cherries, burnt wood, moist hay, lemon zest and hints of red wine vinegar. Taste is sour, malty and tiny fruity with roasted malts, dark bread, burnt toast, cereal, lemon juice, sour cherries, moist hay and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is dry, tart and medium bodied. Finish is sour with roasted malts, dark bread, cereal, lemon juice, sour cherries, cocoa powder, hay and liquorice root. Goes down but doesn’t add much. Slight roast, slight tartness and hints of cherries. That’s pretty much it...

Bottle thanks to Alex. Hazy dark amber/brown beer with a small beige head. Sourish vinegar, cherries, funky notes, citrus, raisins, some black currant. Sourish fruity flavor, raisins, chocolate, cherry notes, caramel, some licorice. Not very Porter-like.

50 cl bottle @ Timo A.
Pours murky red-brown color with a small head. Quite faint aroma, cherries of course, faint honey, distant leather too, can’t really get anything else. Sour cherries on the flavor, mild lactic fruity notes, some yeast and grass. Not as aggressive with the cherries as I expected, decent.

Gerbeer (2039) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 18, 2015
500 ml bottle. Pours a darkish brown/red with light creamy head. Aromas of rotten shellfish and sulphur at first, followed by cherry wood and light chocolate. Not a good start at all. Lucky the flavors are much more cleaner: tart cherry, milk chocolate and roasted malts. Not really sour and considerably stinky - otherwise there may have been good potential.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny beige head. Nose brings out weird notes of feet, earth, and cherry cough medicine. Flavour is even more messed up, with nasty stinky feet upfront, along with earthy notes, purple grape juice, and a sort of funky cherry sourness. It’s not as nasty after the first few sips, but I can’t imagine how this is the flavour they were going for. Utterly fucked up and bizarre. Not good.

Sweet fruity smell, merky brown color, the taste is sweet on the swallow and then that tartness of the fruit comes thru on the palate. Wish it had more ABV, but overall a good beer.

Zlotta (124) - Bonn, GERMANY - JAN 11, 2015
0,5 l bottle from Vormann Brauerei. Clear but very dark reddish brown with a small, quickly collapsing, bubbly, reddish tan head. Lovely, strong aroma of dark chocolate, cherry, black currant and fermented red grapes with hints of smoked malts. Sourish taste dominated by cherry, black currant and fermented red grapes with dark chocolate in the background. Just minimally salty whereas there are no signs of smoked malts anymore. Short, slightly sour finish. Medium body, fizzy mouthfeel, no carbonation. Very unusual and thus interesting beer. Smells and tastes quite good although the cherries dominate a bit too much and the smoke could be a bit stronger. By the way, it serves well as a pairing to liver and brussels sprouts!

ContemplateBeer (1608) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JAN 1, 2015
Aroma: Lots of cherry juice, tootsie roll chocolate; light apple cider vinegar sour; slight saline. Appearance: Dark ruby brown with almost no head. Flavor: More saline up front that endures throughout; cherry comes out more toward the finish; chocolate is light but enduring. Not terribly sour. More salty than anything. Palate: Light body, slick texture, flat carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: Didn’t do much for me, though it was an interesting beer. Terribly overpriced.

Bottle: Cloudy, dark red-brown with a small tan head. Cherry wine, caramel scent. Taste is tart, salty, cherry malt. Tangy, but the saltiness tones it down .. Very nice.

Aroma is dark fruit/cherries, musty and a hint of salt/minerals. The flavor is cherry juice, salt/minerals in the background, malts and a tart/slightly alcoholic/warming finish.
