COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain.
Originally produced at the long established Fremlins Brewery at Faversham, Kent, which was taken over by Whitbread in and closed in 1972. Brewing was moved to Flowers in Cheltenham and subsequently to Castle Eden. The brand was belived to have been discontinued by 2000 but seems to have made a reappeareance, possibly as a one-off.
Brewing moved to Shepherd Neame in 2010 for the Wetherspoons Spring Festival.

tombyars (1411) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - MAR 3, 2012
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in April 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Crystal clear pale copper in colour with a thin white head. Short sulphurous aroma which reminded me of Bass. Thin watery mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a thin digestive biscuit base with a hint of raisin fruit. Sharp metallic tang of hop resins give a dusty dry flavour to the long aftertaste. A weak finish with a light hazelnut flavour which quickly runs out of legs. A poor session bitter lacking in conviction.

[Gravity cask at the Back of Beyond, Reading] Amber. Tastes of green leaves and wee wee, with a fair amount of bitterness. Reminded me strongly of Wadworth’s Henry’s IPA, and just as unpleasant.

A Mes rate. Cask at Baker Street ’Sporks.
Slightly hazy golden brown with a good off white head. That’s two beers in a day from this usually poorly cellared Spoons that are in tip top form. I like it when I time it right... Good rustic earthy snout with some faint barnyard character. Even better flavour. A good base formed by what was apparent in the nose but topped off really well with some perfumed and delightfully aromatic hoppage. Really good fruity finish. Bright, alive and very very drinkable. Very good indeed.

Cask at Pilgrim’s Progress (JDW), Bedford, in Spoons Real Ale Festival ’10. Fremlins: a name from the past, remembered from scores of tin advertisements in pubs with that rather mournful elephant. If I ever drank Fremlins Bitter before it would have been somewhere in East Sussex or West Kent in 1969-70, but in those days I was an uncritical beer drinker, just keen to neck as much of the stuff as possible. This incarnation of the beer is bright amber with a small white head. Rather nice musty sweet malt aroma. Slight sourness and a grainy aftertaste. Rather bland and watery to be honest, but agreeable in many ways.

Hand pulled cask at The Moon Uner Water (JDW) Watford. Amber with a small white head. This really does taste pretty much as I remember it back in the 80s. A well balanced session bitter with distinctive styrian goldings floral notes. A

Cask conditioned handpump Last Plantaganet Leicester. An amber coloured beer with a whitish lasting head. The aroma has a little citrus together with the house yeasty note. It’s the same in the mouth where there are earthy floral notes. It’s pretty reasonable.

leaparsons (8323) - Leicester, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - APR 13, 2010
Cask, Last Plantagenet, Leicester. Amber gold with an off-white foam. Aromas are biscuit and toffee malts with oranges and spices. Some grapefruit with floral aspects. Flavours are toffee malts with tea and light oranges. Sweet pineapple chewits sweets with hints of nuttiness. Traces of sulphur and some yeast. Dry on the finish. A tasty low alcohol beer.

Cask at the Regal (JDW), Cambridge. Amber with a ring of white head; straightforward fruity aroma; thin and watery with some sweet malts; and a light herbal bitter finish. Rather ordinary.
