3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Hard to believe I haven’t rated this yet. Pours inky brown with medium thin off white head. Aroma is sweet chocolate malt with a hint of floral hops. Taste is big rich chocolate malt balanced with spicy earthy hops. ABV is substantial, but doesn’t dominate. Much darker than most winter beers, more akin to a hoppy robust porter. Takes to barrel aging very well. Quite a bargain for the price too, as opposed to BBomb. One of my favorite winter beers, can’t get enough of this.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a bomber into a chalice on 12.17.14.
A: Cocoa, caramel, and some vanilla.
A: 1 finger tan head that is retained nicely. Midnight black body with no red.
T: Cocoa, caramel, dark berry, and milk dominate. Slight woodiness is subtle.
P: Silky smooth. Medium mouthfeel.
O: This is a fantastic winter warmer. Now I see why B-Bomb is so awesome. It’s so well balanced and delicious. This was the go-to WW for me this season.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, chocolate, roasted grain, coffee grounds), trace yeast (sweatsocks).
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Looks nice and has a nice mouthfeel as well, but the aroma and flavor balance are just ok...the former doesn’t offer much and it’s overly sweet. There’s of plenty of bitterness in the finish that seems to come out of nowhere, but it doesn’t really save it. Relatively mediocre.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can from Total Wine.
Pours dark with an attractive light brown head. The aroma brings a surprising amount of citrus along with the roast chocolate malts -- it could even be a black IPA from how it smells. But the flavor is much roastier, heavy coffee and mocha elements, alcohol fairly forward. I actually like this one quite a bit more than B-Bomb, not that this is saying much.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Dark brown with a billowy, lasting tan head. Fruity / malty nose of cookie batter, cola, faint roast, raisin and stewed black cherries. Some dirty fermentation off-notes of concrete and something like boiled vegetables (artichoke) which could be DMS or could be the hop profile, which otherwise seems like faint black pepper / grass. Medium-full body, sweet, syrupy and goopy with absurdly sharp bitterness. Overlong astringent herbal finish. Seriously reminds me of some nasty Kräuterlikör... Cynar, Killepitsch, Jägermeister. Gross.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can - pour is dark ruby, almost black - substantial, dense, off-white head - nose of toffee, hazelnut, tobacco, dried fruit, a hint of smoke - pretty intense flavor profile - equal parts sweet, toasty, and bitter - dark bread, toffee, roasted nuts - wintery spice profile, which is impressive, since there are not spices used - a bit of tobacco - lightly warming alcohol - spicy, moderately bitter finish - I am very much enjoying this.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can as a bonus in trade. Aroma of chocolate and light coffee. Some light pepper. Pour is nearly black with a light brown head, medium in size. Taste is rich chocolate at first, then reveals some bitterness. Lots of chocolate as you drink, balanced well. light peppery hop flavor. Pretty decent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bomber. Pours a deep mahogany color, with a beige head. Great lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel malt. Flavor is a caramel malt and chocolate explosion up front, with a dry backside and yeasty finish. Palate is a bit thick and chewy, but not unpleasant. Overall an excellent beer, and possibly my favorite local brew.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle pours dark brown, almost black with a little tan head that sticks around a while. Aroma is sweet, dark roasted malts. Taste is very stout-like with roasted malt and coffee flavors. A little burnt toast and oak. Kinda dry and very bold with moderate bitterness. I really like this beer! One of my new favorite winter ales.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2015 Can (12oz $3): Dark brown with tan head. Smell roasted malts. Taste roasted chocolate followed by some bitterness. subtle spice. Well balanced.
Update: 1/4/2015 Just liked it more this time and wanted to adjust the score acoringly. Seems like a full bodied brown ale.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy. Hazy dark brown with golden highlights and s thick creamy ecru head. Milk chocolate, light roast, pig manure. A nice hoppy porter. Maybe some spicy nuances as I get further through it.
