3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Fremont, Seattle - 08/11/12.
Very dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head that clears to the edge of the glass and forms a small film atop.
Nose comprises dark fruits, toffee, a little spice, nutty tones, burnt caramelised sugars.
Taste follows nose with hints of liqourice, dark fruits, touch of booze.
Medium bodied with soft carbonation lending towards a bitter sweet finish.
Not usually taken in by ’winter/xmas’ beers but this was half decent!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2010 vintage Small off-white head, copper-brown beer. Bourbon, vanilla, vanillabeans, sweet chocolate and caramel. Very sweet, alcohol, mint and sparadrap. Not really very balanced, despite the aging of the bottle. Very slick, viscous and oily, alcoholwarming. Quite good, if, once more, terribly sweet.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   For an English Strong Ale, its very Stout looking.   Black, moderate to large frothy light beige head, nice lacing.   Soft roasted malts, a little bit of biscuit and burnt caramel malts.   A little spicy on the tongue, very soft roasted malts, smidgen of alcohol.   Its like a pale Stout, with a Pale English Strong Ale, mated with some muted or dulled all-spice like flavors.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Clean finish, soft roasted malts and a bit of spicy biscuity malt background.   Somewhat of an odd duck, but all the flavors blend well.   I enjoyed it more than I thought I would as it wasn’t overly sticky or heavy.
