2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Dark brown with a billowy, lasting tan head. Fruity / malty nose of cookie batter, cola, faint roast, raisin and stewed black cherries. Some dirty fermentation off-notes of concrete and something like boiled vegetables (artichoke) which could be DMS or could be the hop profile, which otherwise seems like faint black pepper / grass. Medium-full body, sweet, syrupy and goopy with absurdly sharp bitterness. Overlong astringent herbal finish. Seriously reminds me of some nasty Kräuterlikör... Cynar, Killepitsch, Jägermeister. Gross.

Draft at Tap House Bellevue. Pours a murky, nearly opaque dark brown with a loose and thin dark tan head. Brown bread, molasses, and ginger cookie on the nose. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Brown bread, molasses, and cookie dough on the mid palate. Mild sweet malty finish. Nice enough.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, chocolate, roasted grain, coffee grounds), trace yeast (sweatsocks).
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Looks nice and has a nice mouthfeel as well, but the aroma and flavor balance are just ok...the former doesn’t offer much and it’s overly sweet. There’s of plenty of bitterness in the finish that seems to come out of nowhere, but it doesn’t really save it. Relatively mediocre.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep dark maroonish brown under a generous foamy beige head. Full rich aroma with dark sugary malts with some winter spice and plums. The flavor has a bit more herbal notes than what should be necessary, but with some dates and Belgian dark malt sweetness. It’s a bit generic, albeit full.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   For an English Strong Ale, its very Stout looking.   Black, moderate to large frothy light beige head, nice lacing.   Soft roasted malts, a little bit of biscuit and burnt caramel malts.   A little spicy on the tongue, very soft roasted malts, smidgen of alcohol.   Its like a pale Stout, with a Pale English Strong Ale, mated with some muted or dulled all-spice like flavors.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Clean finish, soft roasted malts and a bit of spicy biscuity malt background.   Somewhat of an odd duck, but all the flavors blend well.   I enjoyed it more than I thought I would as it wasn’t overly sticky or heavy.
